A multi-color ink tank is adapted to replace individual different color ink tanks in a cavity of a given support structure. Elements on the body of the multi-color ink tank have configurations enabling compatibility with the support structure. The elements include empty opposite side portions of the body defining laterally spaced apart bottom openings that adapt the opposite side portions to seat in spaced slots in the cavity over keys therein and an intermediate central recessed region defined between the opposite side portions that adapts the body to straddle an intermediate slot between the spaced slots and a key therein and also straddle partitions in the cavity forming the slots. The elements also include tabs blocking some latches used to releasably lock some individual ink tanks to thereby identify the latch to be used to releasably lock the multi-color ink tank.

An ink jet pen that is equipped with a free ink chamber. The ink jet pen has a free ink chamber in fluid communication with a negative pressure producing chamber. The negative pressure producing chamber is in communication with a printhead. The ink jet pen has a power source and a surface detection device. The surface detection device is adapted to move along a surface of the substrate.

An orifice plate sealing tape for an orifice plate of a micro-fluid ejection device and methods for sealing an orifice plate with the sealing tape. The sealing tape includes a flexible polymeric backing film and a radiation cured adhesive applied to a surface of the orifice plate. The adhesive is cured in a pattern sufficient to seal adjacent to nozzle holes in the orifice plate and to enhance removal of the backing film and adhesive from the orifice plate prior to use of the micro-fluid ejection device. Upon removal of the sealing tape, a minimum of residue is left on the nozzle plate surface adjacent to and/or in the nozzle holes.
