For use with a printing apparatus that has a plurality of printing rollers, at least one ink fountain, and at least one inking blade that is positioned adjacent one of the inking rollers, the inking blade having a plurality of adjusting keys thereon, an ink control system connected to the inking blade for controlling the adjustment the adjusting keys. The ink control system comprises a system unit for controlling the overall operation of the ink control system, an operator console for inputting commands which control the adjustment of the adjusting keys, a servo powder unit for controlling the adjustment of the adjusting keys, and a plurality of servo modules each of which performs the adjustment of one of the adjusting keys by actuating the one adjusting key.

Ink control system

For use with a printing apparatus that has a plurality of printing rollers, at least one ink fountain, and at least one inking blade that is positioned adjacent to one of the inking rollers, the inking blade having a plurality of adjusting keys thereon, an ink control system connected to the inking blade for controlling the adjustment the adjusting keys. An automatic optical inspection method apparatus wherein optical preprogramming means are utilized to designate the locations of reference features on a reference object, and to instruct the system regarding the reference feature characteristics, and of reference feature parameters, the automatic optical inspection apparatus is then utilizing information obtained from the optical pre-programming means to analyze image data obtained from objects under inspection, the apparatus initially obtaining a larger amount of optical imaging data and systematically thereafter reducing the quantity of such data by appropriate signal processing and gating, so that an accept or reject decision is based upon a small portion of the originally obtained data.

Improved method and apparatus for indicating blood pressure and the like in a varied pressure cuff system wherein blood vessel pulsation signals are supplied to signal processing means for determining the blood pressure. The blood pressure pulsations are monitored to detect artifacts and the signal processing means inhibited if an artifact is detected. Upon detection of an artifact the pressure applied by the cuff is automatically adjusted to repeat the pressure at which the artifact is detected, thereby to seek artifact-free values. The pressure-repetition may be a discrete pressure or a limited pressure range. Further, a maximum number of limited-pressure repetitions may be established, after which the entire pressure range must be repeated.

In a system for measuring blood pressure and the like based on a sensed quantity representing the sum of pressure applied by a pressure cuff and a fluctuating component representative of the pulsatile pressure within the blood vessel method and apparatus for indicating blood pressure only if that pressure determined in a first preferred manner correlates substantially with a pressure determined in a secondary, different manner. More specifically, the sensed quantity is analyzed in a manner preferred for determining diastolic pressure and a manner preferred for determining systolic pressure, and the diastolic and systolic pressures or pressure ranges established by analyzing the sensed quantity in a secondary manner or manners. Examples of preferred and secondary techniques for diastolic and systolic pressure determinations are discussed.

Apparatus and process for antifact rejection through cross correlation

In systolic pressure determining apparatus utilizing a pressure cuff and means for measuring a fluctuating quantity proportional to the sum of the cuff pressure and the fluctuating component proportioned to the pulsatile blood pressure, and including means for determining the maximum value of the fluctuating component as cuff pressure is varied, the improvement comprising means for converting the quantity into a representation of a time derivative of the fluctuating component means for obtaining the time integral of the time derivative over an interval of predetermined limits between initiation of systolic rise and systolic peak in each blood pressure pulse, and means extending the time integral, as a measure of pulse pressure amplitude, to the maximum value determining means. Specifically, certain crossings of a reference value by the time derivative are recognized as being the initiation of systolic rise and the systolic peak respectively, and the integration occurs over this interval. The method implemented by the improved means also comprises an aspect of the invention.

Improved method and apparatus for identifying and quantizing a substantially periodic, steeply rising wavefront of a signal in the possible presence of low amplitude interference. A time derivative of at least the steep wavefront is obtained. The derivative is then integrated over a predetermined interval in each of successive repetitions of the steep wavefront, the interval being that during which the derivative exceeds a reference level. A threshold value is established, preferably dynamically, to verify or validate that when the derivative exceeds the reference level it indeed represents the steeply rising wavefront. The integrated derivative is recognized as the quantized value of the steeply rising wavefront only if such verification occurs. The invention is suited to oscillometric determination of systolic pressure in a patient, where measurement of signal amplitude is preferably achieved by integrating the time derivative of the systolic rise wavefront.

In a blood pressure measuring system in which a pressure signal comprised of both applied pressure and pulsatile pressure is detected and subsequently filtered to separate the pulsatile pressure component, circuitry is provided to minimize start-up transients in the separated signal. Such start-up transients, which normally persist for some time after start-up as a result of the AC time constants of the filters, are otherwise capable of generating erroneous measurements. The circuitry initializes the filters by clamping their outputs to predetermined voltage levels during a start-up interval and thereby avoids the generation of the transients.

Initialization circuit

A method of and apparatus for determining when an unknown quantity is within a desired range of a reference quantity. The apparatus includes a dual slope integrator which integrates the reference quantity and the unknown quantity and discharges the resultant integrated levels. By integrating the reference quantity at least once and the unknown quantity at least twice for three different time periods which differ from one another by amounts which are proportional to the desired range, a comparison of the discharge times of the resultant integrated levels will provide an indication of whether the unknown quantity is within the desired range, when the desired range is a percentage of the value of the reference quantity. By integrating the reference quantity at least once and the unknown quantity at least twice for the same time period and then discharging each of the resultant integrated levels for three different time periods which differ from one another by amounts which are proportional to the desired range, a comparison of the times to further discharge to a preselected level will provide an indication of whether the unknown quantity is within the desired range, when the desired range is a percentage of full scale.
