The present invention provides a system and method for maintaining desired pressure levels in an irrigation system when the flow rate available to the irrigation system is reduced below the system's required flow rate. According to a first preferred embodiment, the present invention teaches a method which includes the steps of: receiving and storing irrigation system information including sprinkler specifications, flow rates and pressure requirements; receiving and storing an irrigation plan to be executed including the target amount of an applicant to be applied to a target area; determining an available flow rate to the irrigation system; determining a required flow rate of the irrigation machine; comparing the available flow rate to the required flow rate to determine whether the available flow is sufficient for the system based on the sprinkler specifications; adjusting the pulse rate of the sprinklers to reduce the require flow rate to at least the available flow rate; and calculating and selecting a lower ground speed required to apply the target amount of applicant to the target area based on the selected pulse rate for the sprinklers.

System, method and apparatus for providing constant pressure within an irrigation system at reduced flow rates

The present invention provides a system, method and apparatus for spraying the leaf and root areas of plants. According to an exemplary preferred embodiment, the present invention provides a foliar chemical application package which is designed specifically to deliver a chemical solution to the leaf area of plants in which the chemical will primary enter the plant through the foliar area rather than the root zone. According to a further preferred embodiment, the present invention teaches a system, method and apparatus for providing a specialized foliage spraying application in which water supply lines and chemical supply lines are individually controlled so that applicants, such as different chemicals received from different chemical tanks, may be simultaneously applied to a given crop.

System, method and apparatus for spraying the leaf and root areas of plants

The present invention includes a variable sprinkler orifice device that can change orifice sizes using a rotating disk with multiple orifices along the circumference of the disk. According to first preferred embodiment, the implement preferably includes a conduit in which water is directed through a series of rotatable plates which preferably include incrementally sized orifices. According to a further preferred embodiment, the variable orifices are automatically and quickly adjusted based on VRI data to change the combination of orifices used.

Variable sprinkler orifice device

An irrigation system is disclosed which includes a center pivot support having an elongated main water boom pivotally connected thereto which extends outwardly therefrom. An elongated extension boom is pivotally connected at its inner end to the outer end of the main boom and is supported by a steerable drive tower. A corner arm sensor is provided for sensing the angle of the extension boom with respect to the main boom. A plurality of first sprinklers are positioned on the extension boom along the length thereof and a plurality of second sprinklers are positioned on the extension boom along the length thereof. The water which is normally allocated to the end gun on the outer end of the extension boom is supplied to the second sprinkler during certain periods of time that the end gun is not activated.

Corner irrigation system

An irrigation system is disclosed which includes a center pivot support having an elongated main water boom pivotally connected thereto which extends outwardly therefrom. An elongated extension boom is pivotally connected at its inner end to the outer end of the main boom and is supported by a steerable drive tower. A corner arm sensor is provided for sensing the angle of the extension boom with respect to the main boom. A plurality of sprinklers are positioned on the extension boom along the length thereof and are controlled by a computer which is programmed with a table of sprinkler sequences. The computer calculates the areas being covered by the extension boom as the system is moved through the field and determines the best sprinkler sequence for the sprinkler on the extension boom.

The method of controlling the speed of the last regular drive unit (L.R.D.U.) of a center pivot irrigation machine having a corner span pivotally connected thereto comprising: placing an angle sensor at the pivotal connection of the main boom and the extension boom for monitoring the angle therebetween upon predetermined time increments; changing the speed of the L.R.D.U. according to the formula:

Method of maintaining a uniform chemical depth under the center pivot

An irrigation system is disclosed which includes a center pivot support having an elongated main water boom pivotally connected thereto which extends outwardly therefrom. An elongated extension boom is pivotally connected at its inner end to the outer end of the main boom and is supported by a steerable drive tower. A corner arm sensor is provided for sensing the angle of the extension boom with respect to the main boom. First and second lines of sprinklers are provided on the main boom along the length thereof with the nozzle size thereof increasing from the inner to outer ends thereof. A third line of sprinklers are positioned on the extension boom along the length thereof, the nozzle size of which increases from the inner end of the extension boom to the outer end thereof. A fourth line of second sprinklers are also positioned on the extension boom along the length thereof, the nozzle size of which increases from the outer end of the extension boom to the inner end thereof. By utilizing the two lines of sprinklers in combination, the proper amount of water can be applied for all corner arm positions. The flow rate in the first and third lines are equal and the flow rates in the second and fourth lines are equal. When the third line of sprinklers is activated, the first line of sprinklers is deactivated. When the fourth line of sprinklers is activated, the second line of sprinklers are deactivated.

The method of controlling the speed of the last regular drive unit of a center pivot irrigation system having a corner irrigation system pivotally connected thereto is disclosed comprising the steps of: placing a pressure transducer at the downstream side of the main water line for monitoring the changes in main water line pressure as the sprinklers on the extension water line are sequenced; driving the last regular drive unit at a predetermined speed; recording the output of the pressure transducer at predetermined intervals; comparing the recorded output at the predetermined intervals to the pressure recorded when all the sprinklers on the extension line are turned off; and varying the speed of the last regular drive unit according to the formula NEW SPEED=(END PRESSURE/RETRACTED END PRESSURE).sup.1/2 .times.L.R.D.U. SPEED SETTING.

Method of varying the speed of a center pivot irrigation system

An irrigation system is disclosed which includes a center pivot support having an elongated main water boom pivotally connected thereto which extends outwardly therefrom. An elongated extension boom is pivotally connected at its inner end to the outer end of the main boom and is supported by a steerable drive tower. A corner arm sensor is provided for sensing the angle of the extension boom with respect to the main boom. A plurality of first sprinklers are positioned on the extension boom along the length thereof, the nozzle size of which increases from the inner end of the extension boom to the outer end thereof. A plurality of second sprinklers are also positioned on the extension boom along the length thereof, the nozzle size of which increases from the outer end of the extension boom to the inner end thereof. By utilizing the two lines of sprinklers in combination, the proper amount of water can be applied for all corner arm positions.
