A method for preparing a low-air entraining, low viscosity lignosulfonate composition. The method comprises: a) applying heat to the crude lignosulfonate composition under suitable conditions to reduce sugar levels to below 10%, optionally below 5%, optionally below 3%), or optionally below 1%, on a dry basis; b) mixing a crude lignosulfonate composition with an effective amount of a source of trivalent ion to complex air entraining fatty acids and resin acids; c) lowering temperature to prevent viscosity buildup.

Process for preparing low air entraining, low viscosity lignosulfonates

Formulations and methods of making wood pellets treated with lignin sulfonate as an anti-autooxidative component to reduce the rate of self-heating of bulk wood pellets. The lignin sulfonate may be used as a binder in the wood pellets or the wood pellets may be sprayed with lignin sulfonate for an encapsulated wood pellet. Wood pellets having the lignin sulfonate have a lowered potential of self-heating below high reactivity pellets and better structural durability during storage and transportation without adversely affecting the fuel value of the wood pellets.

Anti-autooxidative wood pellet binder

Disclosed are compositions and methods for separating gangue material from metallic sulfide ores. The compositions typically include a lignosolfonate and do not include a cyanide salt. Suitable lignosulfonates may include lignosulfonates, for example hardwood lignosulfonate having a weight average molecular weight of about 3 kDa to about 12 kDa and having a relatively low sulfur content and a relatively low sulfonate content.

Hardwood lignosulfonates for separating gangue materials from metallic sulfide ores

A modification to lignosulfonate is disclosed, the effect of which is to reduce the set retarding and air entraining properties normally experienced when using lignosulfonates as water reducing admixtures in cement compositions. The modified lignosulfonate is obtained by oxidative reaction of a lignosulfonate or one of its salts with ammonia or other amine in an aqueous solution.
