A remote control system and method comprising a television and a light pointing apparatus adapted, in a first embodiment, to transmit a first narrow beam having a first frequency corresponding to visible light, which is used to give an indication of where the pointer is pointed, and a second expanded beam surrounding the first beam and comprising a second frequency corresponding to infrared light. In a second embodiment, the pointer transmits a single frequency modulated light beam. In operation, the beam of light is shown on the television screen to activate an on screen menu based user interface via a photo sensor, microprocessor and onscreen display controller. Screen menu items appear on the screen positioned around the periphery of the screen. The user then moves the beam of light on the screen to the periphery of the screen to optically engage one of the plurality of photo conductors, which triggers an appropriate menu sequence or the performance of a television function such as, e.g., channel up.

A flat projection television comprising an imagine engine mounted adjacent a top of an enclosure and optically coupled to a collimator mirror, a flat mirror, a mirror assembly comprising a plurality of cylindrical mirrors, and a diffuser screen. The image engine includes a cylindrical lens which expands an outgoing image horizontally. The image engine projects the image downward from the top of the enclosure toward the bottom of the enclosure where the horizontally expanding image encounters the collimator mirror which collimates the expanding beam bringing the horizontal lines back into parallel with one another. The collimator mirror also reflects the collimated image towards the front of the enclosure where it encounters the flat mirror oriented to deflect the image upward into the mirror box location of the enclosure at an appropriate angle. As the image is projected from the flat mirror, it encounters the cylindrical mirrors of the mirror assembly which expand each horizontal line of the image to present a fully expanded and complete image on the diffuser screen.

A spring mounting clip is provided that preferably includes a spring arm coupled to and extending from a mounting base. The spring arm bends aside as the mirror is pressed against the back wall of a PTV enclosure and spring back to its original unstressed position once the mirror engages a notch in the lower arm portion. The notch preferably includes a locking surface that abuts and constrains the mirror. Alternatively, a spring mounting clip is provided that includes a spring lever arm coupled to and extending between a pair of support legs, which extend up generally at right angles from mounting feet. In operation, the arm, which includes a locking member moves inwardly toward the support legs as a mirror or other object presses against the arm and moves outwardly or freely springs away from the support legs once the mirror or object passes a transition region of the lower portion of the arm and is received by the locking member.

An integrally weighted base suitable for attachment to a bottom surface of an enclosure to form an integrally weighted cabinet. The integrally weighted cabinet is able to satisfy load bearing and tip over standards without requiring the addition of separate weights. The base preferably includes a frame and fill material disposed within the frame. The frame may be metal or plastic. Fill material is poured into the frame and allowed to set. The fill material may be any suitable material having a density sufficient to act as a weight or counterbalance, such as, e.g., concrete, a concrete and fiber mixture, metal, or a concrete and metal mixture. The base may further include a plurality of openings to dissipate heat from within the interior space of the cabinet. In one implementation of the present invention, the base replaces a bottom panel of a typical PTV cabinet and further eliminates the need for attaching separate weights onto a bottom panel of a typical PTV cabinet.

The present invention provides for an integrally weighted base suitable for attachment to a bottom surface of an enclosure to form an integrally weighted cabinet. PTV cabinetry comprising molded plastic foam parts formed from expanded polystyrene or phenolic foam. The foam parts are preferably functionally designed to replace the equivalent parts presently being made by wood fabrication or other molded plastic techniques. In a preferred embodiment, a PTV cabinet may be assembled from thee matching molded foam parts. The foam parts may be uniquely located with respect to one another via locating features molded into the foam parts. Once assembled, an external cabinet or cosmetic fascia part may be placed over the foam parts.

Foam cabinetry for electronic devices

The present invention is directed to a load bearing shipping carton with a sleeve interlock that facilitates ease of assembly and structural integrity of the shipping carton assembly. The carton assembly includes a tray into which a product to be packaged is set, a cover which fits on top of the product, and a sleeve which slides over the top of the cover, product and tray assembly. The tray includes a forklift port sized to receive the tines of a forklift. The sleeve preferably includes a pair of flaps that fold into the forklift port and side walls that extend to or nearly to the bottom of the tray. In a preferred embodiment, the flaps are sized to a dimension that matches the forklift port and, when folded into position in the forklift port, the flaps increases the structural integrity of the forklift port. The top of the flaps is scored allowing the flap to be automatically folded into the forklift port when the carton assembly is banded together, thereby helping the sleeve to be fitted to the underlying packaging assembly.
