A portable performance platform for the performing arts is disclosed that, in the stowed configuration, can be transported along roads and highways, and, in its unfolded configuration, presents an extended performing area having an overhead canopy. The platform includes a chassis mounted on ground engaging wheels. A pair of spaced apart, upright standards are positioned along one side margin of the chassis. Each standard includes an articulated arm that can be shifted between a stowed position (for transport of the platform) and an extended position (when the platform is set up for a performance). The articulated arm includes two arm members, and panels are fixedly carried by each of the arm members. In the stowed position, the panels make up a top wall and a sidewall of a staging compartment, and, when the arms are in the extended position, the panels provide a canopy over the performing area.

Portable performance platform

A self-locking slider mechanism for holding telescoping relatively-movable inner and outer tubular members in adjusted lengthwise position and which requires a greater force manually applied lengthwise of the members to decrease the over-all length of the members than to increase the over-all length thereof. The members can be used as a stand to provide a load-carrying capacity for the stand while still enabling adjustment of stand height with minimal effort. The slider mechanism has a body member attached to one tubular member and having an internal recess extending lengthwise thereof and opening to one side of the body with an inclined ramp plate mounted within the recess and associated with a ramp member movable therealong and which has a friction member engageable with the other tubular member. A plurality of compression springs are associated with the ramp plate and the ramp member and the ramp plate is inclined whereby a force tending to lower the height of the stand as by a load carried by the stand is reacted against relatively stiff compression springs associated with the ramp plate. A force tending to increase the over-all length of the tubular members is resisted by a lesser spring force acting on the ramp member and the ramp member moves downwardly along the inclined ramp plate to reduce the pressure applied by the friction member.

Music stand top or similar article

A chair specifically engineered for performing musicians is disclosed. Extensive research and design has produced a vocal or instrumental musician's chair which permits proper diaphragmatic breathing and on which a musician can sit comfortably for long periods of practice or performance. This result is achieved by contouring the seat both for correct performing posture and for comfort. The orientation of the back-rest of the chair to the seat also enhances the posture of the performer and this, in conjunction with the positioning of the body relative to the floor, contributes to the ability of the performer to breathe properly while seated comfortably, thus reducing fatigue and greatly enhancing the tonal quality of the performance.

Musician's chair

A portable shell of a lightweight construction usable as a room divider, display panel, or acoustical or visual enclosure detachably connectable to the framework for mounting in either a support position or a storage position. The leg structure includes a pair of legs each having a pivotally-mounted foot movable between an operative position or a storage position. Additionally, the shell has a canopy panel hinged to one end thereof for extending the height of the shell and the legs can be attached at different positions on the framework for providing different effective shell heights.

A conductor's chair, podium and stand wherein a podium has a flat standing area at a relatively low level and both the chair and stand have a plurality of generally horizontally-extending legs with certain of the legs having a greater length to underlie and balance the off-center weight of the chair and stand, respectively, and with the longer legs being positionable under the podium to bring the chair and stand relatively close together and with minimal leg exposure beyond the perimeter of the podium. The chair and stand are of separable parts with interengaging sections which may be assembled in only one relation to assure stability in use.

A portable riser having a plurality of steps which have a travel position in superimposed relation with structure for rolling the riser along the floor, hinge means interconnecting the steps whereby they may be folded out of superimposed relation, a pair of sliders pivotally associated with each step and which are hinged to sliders of an adjacent step by said hinge means whereby lifting of one step causes erection of the riser to an erected position, and latch means automatically operable to prevent movement of the steps beyond erected position and to lock the riser in erected position for use.

A portable stage having plural separable stage units with means for holding adjacent stage units in fixed relation and at the same or different heights, including a pair of elongate grooved members associated one with each stage unit and with clamp mechanism positionable within the grooves of both of said members for imparting rigidity to the adjacent stage units and for holding said stage units locked to each other.
