A compact two-dimensional (2D) scanning magnet for scanning ion beams is provided. The compact 2D scanning magnet may include a vertical field trapezoidal coil and a horizontal field trapezoidal coil that is disposed proximate to the vertical field trapezoidal coil and is rotated about an axis relative to the vertical field trapezoidal coil. The vertical field trapezoidal coil may include a top coil that is configured to receive a first input electrical current flowing in a first direction, and a bottom coil that is configured to receive a second input electrical current flowing in the first direction. The horizontal field trapezoidal coil may include a left coil that is configured to receive a third input electrical current flowing in a second direction, and a right coil that is configured to receive a fourth input electrical current flowing in the second direction.

The invention provides a method for generating medical isotopes, the method comprising contacting a primary radiation beam with a converter for a time sufficient to produce a secondary beam of gamma particles, and contacting the beam of gamma particles to a target, where the cross section dimension of the beam of gamma particles is similar to the cross section dimension of the target. Both the converter and target are small in diameter and very closely spaced. Also provided is a system for producing medical isotopes, the device comprising a housing having a first upstream end and a second downstream end, a radiotransparent channel (collimator) with a first upstream end and a downstream end, wherein the upstream end is adapted to receive a radiation beam, a target positioned downstream of the downstream end of the channel and coaxially aligned with the channel, wherein the target has a cross section that is similar to the cross section of the channel.

Compact assembly for production of medical isotopes via photonuclear reactions

A converter for generating photons from an electron beam is provided. The converter may include a plurality of converter plates (i) positioned perpendicular to an axis and (ii) arranged sequentially in a direction along the axis from a first converter plate of the plurality of converter plates to a last converter plate of the plurality of converter plates. The first converter plate may be configured to receive an electron beam traveling in the direction along the axis. Further, the first converter plate may have a thickness smaller than a thickness of the last converter plate, wherein a thickness of a particular converter plate is measured along the axis.

Efficient bremsstrahlung converter

A remotely controllable sublimation apparatus that includes a crucible block adapted to retain a crucible containing a solid mixture comprising one or more radionuclides, a first heating block comprising one or more first heating elements configured to selectively generate heat having a first temperature sufficient to at least partially sublime the solid mixture, and a collection vessel coupled to the first heating block. The crucible block is movable, relative to the first heating block, between an open position and a closed positon. When the crucible block is in the closed position, the one or more first heating elements are configured to heat the crucible block to the first temperature, thereby heating the solid mixture and producing a vapor that is collected by the collection vessel and leaving a solid residue in the crucible that substantially consists only of the one or more radionuclides.

System and method for collecting and isolating radiosotopes

The invention provides a method for isolating scandium, the method having the steps of dissolving titanium nuclear targets to create a solution; contacting the solution with a resin so as to retain scandium on the resin and generate an eluent containing titanium; contacting the scandium-containing resin with acid of a first concentration to remove impurities from the resin; and contacting the scandium-containing resin with an acid of a second concentration to remove scandium from the resin.

Process for the separation and purification of scandium medical isotopes

The invention provides for a method for producing isotopes using a beam of particles from an accelerator, whereby the beam is maintained at between about 70 to 2000 MeV; and contacting a thorium-containing target with the particles. Production of isotopes using high power proton beams

The invention provides a method using accelerators to produce radio-isotopes in high quantities. The method comprises: supplying a 'core' of low-enrichment fissile material arranged in a spherical array of LEU combined with water moderator. The array is surrounded by substrates which serve as multipliers and moderators as well as neutron shielding substrates. A flux of neutrons enters the low-enrichment fissile material and causes fissions therein for a time sufficient to generate desired quantities of isotopes from the fissile material. The radio-isotopes are extracted from said fissile material by chemical processing or other means.
