A needle guide for an angled ultrasound probe having a port tower with a plurality of needle ports aligned with an angled ultrasonic imaging plane. The needle ports in a port tower are aligned at the offset angle of the angled ultrasound probe and can support and guide a needle at the offset angle. Adjustment of the port tower along the transducer axis of the angled ultrasound probe maintains the alignment of the needle ports relative to the ultrasonic imaging plane and provides adjustment to accommodate differently sized patients. A method is also provided to securely align a needle with an angled ultrasonic imaging plane with an angled ultrasound probe such that the needle can accurately transect the ultrasound imaging plane.

A system and method for visually assisting an operator of an ultrasound system are provided. In an aspect, the method involves receiving imaging data of an anatomical region using a first coordinate system, the imaging data marked with a landmark for identifying the anatomical region; transforming the imaging data of the anatomical region from the coordinate system to a cylindrical coordinate system; displaying a live ultrasound image of the anatomical region as received from an ultrasound transducer; receiving positional information from the ultrasound transducer corresponding to an alignment point of the anatomical region; and displaying a transformed image from the transformed imaging data of the anatomical region corresponding to the alignment point using the landmark; wherein the transformed image and the live ultrasound image are displayed simultaneously. In another aspect, the method involves generating and transforming a 3D model of the first anatomical regions.

Method and system for visually assisting an operator of an ultrasound system

This invention provides a system and method for providing Indicator Features in high resolution micro-ultrasound prostate images, wherein the ultrasound device operates at a center frequency of 15 MHz and above. Indicator Features are features, which have been identified alone and/or in combination with other features in high resolution micro-ultrasound images, and have been determined to be significantly statistically correlated to either benign tissue or some grade of cancerous tissue on the basis of predictive probabilities. These Indicator Features can be used to train a linear or non-linear classifier, which can be used to classify patient images of the prostate. These Indicator Features can be used to guide a clinician as to where to take a biopsy core from the prostate, as well as assist in diagnosis of the tissue.
