A modular heating cable assembly having two cold wires extending the length thereof and a resistance heating wire interconnecting the two wires. The portion of the two wires anterior to the heating wire forms a cold lead, and an element for interrupting the circuit to the heating wire is disposed in one of the wires of the cold lead. The assembly may consist of a cold lead module and one or more heating cable modules, and the element for interrupting the current may be disposed either in the cold lead or in a separate unit disposed between the cold lead module and the heating module.

Modular heating cable assembly

An electrical heating system for building structures in which side walls form a space for fill material supporting a slab floor and containing an electrical heating cable, the fill material functioning as a heat sump for absorbing heat while the heating cable is in operation and releasing it over a period of time whether the cable is operating or not. A moisture regulator is included in the system consisting of one or more distribution units connected to a source of water and a probe sensing the amount of moisture for registering on a gauge or for operating a valve in the line for maintaining the desired amount of moisture in the fill material. The fill material may be divided by a plurality of vertical walls into compartments, and a water distributing unit and a moisture sensor probe are disposed in each of the compartments for controlling the moisture in each compartment. A thermal and moisture insulating material is preferably disposed between the fill material and the earth to prevent escape downwardly of the heat generated in the fill material and to assist in controlling the moisture content of the fill material.

Electrical heating system for building structures

A heat loss control system for a building having a sump of fill material which is heated by an electric heating cable, and a floor disposed on the fill material. A layer of porous material such as coarse sand having air spaces therein is disposed between the fill material and the earth, and a system of perforated tubes or the like is disposed in said layer, and water in the layer is removed by a pump attached to the perforated tubes. As the water is removed from the layer, air fills the porous material and forms an effective insulation to prevent the heat in the fill material from being dissipated into the earth beneath the sump. The heating cable may be disposed in the fill material or in the floor supported by the fill material. Probes are preferably inserted in the layer and connected either to a guage or to the motor for the pump, so that the pump will be operated when it is necessary to remove the moisture and improve the insulating characteristics of the layer.

Heat loss control system for building heat sumps

A heat sump system for building structures in which side walls for a space for fill material, preferably of a granular nature such as sand, and a thermal insulating material is disposed between the fill material and the earth to prevent the escape of heat generated in the fill material normally generated by an electrical heating cable. An insulating material may be disposed around the periphery of the fill material along the side walls around the building foundation. The insulating material is also preferably impervious to moisture to prevent the transfer of moisture from the earth and the side walls to the fill material. While the electrical heating cable, which may be disposed throughout a major portion of the fill material on a horizontal plane, is preferably embedded in the fill material, it may be disposed between the fill material and a concrete slab disposed thereon, or disposed in the concrete slab.

Heat sump system for building structures

A flexible heating cable having a cold lead section and a heating section, in which a thermostat is disposed in the cold wires of the cold lead section and a light and a switch are disposed in a flexible translucent plastic pouch remotely located from the two sections and are connected to the wires adjacent the thermostat so that the unit can be tested at a position remote from the heating cable installation. The heating section is preferably provided with a socket on the end opposite the cold lead section to permit the coupling therewith of one or more heating section modules, and the switch is preferably operated by depressing the side walls of the remotely located pouch.
