Provided are solar control laminates comprising a solar control film and a polymeric sheet. The solar control film comprises a polymeric film coated with a coating comprising inorganic infrared absorbing nanoparticles. Preferably, inorganic infrared absorbing nanoparticles comprise nanoparticles of antimony tin oxide (ATO), indium tin oxide (ITO), lanthanum hexaboride (LaB) or mixtures thereof. Optionally, the solar control laminate also comprises a rigid sheet, such as a glass sheet.

A polysiloxane coating composition comprises (a) about 5 to about 50 wt % of solids complementally comprising about 2 to about 30 wt % of a silica; about 0.25 to about 7 wt % of a partial condensate of an aminosilane; and about 2 to about 90 wt % of a partial condensate of a tri-functional silane having the formula RSi(OR'), wherein R is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, vinyl, and aryl radicals and R&#x2032; is selected from the group consisting of H., alkyl radicals having 1 to 4 carbons, and alkylcarbonyl radicals having 1 to 4 carbons; and (b) about 50 to about 95 wt % of solvent comprising about 10 to about 90 wt % of a lower aliphatic alcohol and about 10 to about 90 wt % of water. Safety glazings with improved weatherability

Provided are multilayer laminates having one or more layers comprising twisted nematic liquid crystals and one or more layers of a polymeric sheet. The twisted nematic liquid crystal layers reflect infrared radiation. Thus, the multilayer laminates are useful to reduce the transmission of infrared energy. For example, in some embodiments the multilayer laminates are useful as windows to reduce energy consumption necessary to cool the interior of a structure such as an automobile or building. Preferably, the multilayer laminates retain one or more of the beneficial properties of safety glass. The multilayer laminates may include additional layers such as infrared absorbing layers, half wave plates, and the like, to minimize the transmission of infrared energy. The multilayer laminates may also include further additional layers such as polymeric films, polymeric sheets, rigid sheets, and the like.

Multilayer laminates comprising chiral nematic liquid crystals

The present invention is an improved polymeric resin composition comprising or consisting essentially of from about 70 wt % to about 79 wt % units derived from ethylene and from about 21 wt % to about 30 wt % units derived from an &#x3b1;,&#x3b2;-unsaturated carboxylic acid having from 3 to 8 carbons. Resins of the present invention are particularly suitable for preparing transparent laminates useful as glazing elements that provide a greater measure of safety than non-laminated glazing elements. Laminates of the present invention have 3% haze or less without the addition of amines.

Thermoplastic resin compositions suitable for use in transparent laminates

A thermoplastic film or sheet having a thickness of about 1 mil (0.026 mm) to about 20 mils (0.51 mm) containing a surface embossed layer comprising a copolymer of alpha olefin(s) with alpha, beta ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid comonomer(s), ionomers derived therefrom and combinations thereof useful for making solar cell laminates, wherein the surface is embossed with a pattern which provides channels for de-airing, the channels having depth of about 20 microns or less, a width of about 30 microns to about 300 microns and spaced about 0.1 mm to about 1 mm apart, and use thereof in photovoltaic cells and the manufacture thereof.

This invention relates to thermoplastic interlayers for laminated safety glass with superior vacuum de-airing at elevated temperatures and superior tacking and edge sealing properties. The sheeting has surface pattern on at least one of the surfaces characterized by flat surfaces with substantially uninterrupted channels for airflow in at least two non-parallel directions. The channels allow for rapid de-airing while the area roughness parameter ratio AR/ARin the range of 0.52 to 0.62, ARt being less than 32 &#x3bc;m, and area kurtosis less than 2.5, allow for ease of tacking of the interlayer onto glass and edge sealing after de-airing has been completed. Said surface pattern may also be superimposed onto a pattern which is generated by melt fracture or other means on at least one side to enhance de-airing and aid edge sealing.
