Confining lateral traversal within a network. An authorization request identifies a credential, a protected first resource, and an identifier of a protected second resource for which authorization is requested. A lateral traversal policy associated with the second resource is identified, which constrains access to the second resource to only resources that belong to a subset of resources including the second resource. When it is determined that the credential is configured for access to the second resource, and when it is determined that the first resource belongs to the subset of resources including the second resource, an authorization token is issued, which authorizes the credential to access the second resource via the first resource. Alternatively, when it is determined that the credential is granted access to the second resource, and when it is determined that the first resource is outside of the particular subset of resources, the authorization request is denied.

Confining lateral traversal within a computer network

The present disclosure relates to systems, methods, and computer-readable media for enhancing security of communications between instances of clients and servers while enabling rotation of server certificates (e.g., X.509 certificates). The systems described herein involve updating a client list of server certificates (e.g., a certificate thumbprint) without reconfiguring or re-installing a client and/or server application, starting a new session (e.g., a hypertext transfer protocol secure (HTTPS) session), or deploying new code. The systems described herein may passively or actively update a client list of certificates to enable a client to security verify an identity of a server instance in a non-invasive way that boosts security from man-in-the-middle types of attacks.

Securely rotating a server certificate

A secure DNS query may be made by establishing a secure connection with a specific DNS server to determine an address for a hostname. A client device may have a database that may contain a record of a secure DNS server for one or more hostnames. When a DNS request contains one of the specified hostnames, an authenticated session may be created with the designated secure DNS server and a network address for the hostname is returned using the session. The authenticated session may authenticate a client device to the server as well as authenticate the server to the client. In some embodiments, the secure DNS server may accept connections from authenticated clients and may disregard connection requests from non authenticated clients.

A system discloses providing secure remote desktop session host experience to a user for a selected application while controlling the user's access to non-core functionalities of the selected application. An implementation of the system disclosed herein identifies a non-core functionality of an application running on a server, flags the executable files, shared object library files, and the registration keys necessary for the non-core functionality of the application, and disables the application's access to the identified executable files, the identified shared object library files, and the identified registration keys.

Secure remote desktop session

Examples related to secure computing systems are disclosed. In one example, a method includes, at a local agent computing device, sending to a remote work scheduling computing device a work context of the local agent computing device, the work context describing a set of work that the local agent is configured to execute, and polling a remote work depository for work compatible with the work context. The method further includes receiving a response from the remote work depository identifying a job within the work context, the job being requested by a computing device other than the remote work scheduling computing device, and executing the job.

Secured computing system

A connection to a private network may use an IPv6 tunneling client to connect to a corresponding IPv6 tunneling router at the edge of the private network. The client may be configured to automatically establish a tunneling connection and may have a routing table for routing IPv6 addresses for hosts within the private network through the tunneling connection. The client may be connected to an IPv4 or IPv6 connection outside the private network. The connection between the IPv6 tunneling client and IPv6 tunneling router may be an authenticated and secure connection.

A method is disclosed that includes assigning a service address to a service of a private network. The service of the private network is accessible, via a gateway, by a client computer. The method also includes turning off duplicate address detection at the gateway. The gateway is associated with a public network address that is different from the service address.

Service access using a service address

A proxy system may use Layer 3 security mechanisms to establish secure communications between two devices. Each device may establish a secure session with the proxy using the same or a different configuration of a secure session. The proxy may pass traffic between the two devices and perform translation of the traffic between the two secure sessions. The proxy may also perform application layer gateway translations for communication traffic. Some embodiments may comprise a distribution or master proxy that may assign a communication session to a slave proxy in a scalable architecture.

Proxy with layer 3 security

An address resolver such as a DNS service may use the identity of a requesting client device to determine a response of a network address for a hostname in a request. A requesting client device may transmit a hardware or user identifier to an address resolving server in order to authenticate the client. The server may determine if the requesting client is authorized to have access to the requested hostname, and respond with the network address when the client is authorized. The address resolver may be used to limit access for users to various devices or hosts across a network and in some cases may track which users are accessing which hosts.

Variable DNS responses based on client identity

A method and apparatus for configuring a plurality of computers, each of which requires interaction with at least one resource to advance a configuration state of the computer. A request for access to a resource may be received from at least one of the computers, and a resource needed may be determined. An availability of the resource needed may be determined, and the computer instructed to interact with the resource if the resource is available. If the resource is not available, the computer may be caused to not interact with the resource.
