A masterbatch having reactive silicone as a hydrophobic additive, the polyester compound that the silicone-containing masterbatch has been let down into, and the plastic articles and films from such compounds having enhanced hydrophobic properties are disclosed. Films having a Water Contact Angle of at least 76&#xb0; (ASTM D7490-08) are exemplified.

Polyester compounds having enhanced hydrophobic surface properties

A masterbatch having functionalized silicone with an epoxy group or a secondary amine group as a slip additive, the polyethylene compound that the silicone-containing masterbatch has been let down into, and the plastic articles and films from such compounds having improved slip properties are disclosed. The improved slip properties are evidenced by essentially no migration of the slip additive 12 weeks after manufacturing and a dynamic coefficient of friction value of less than 0.4 and a static coefficient of friction 0.5 or less as measured within the first day of manufacturing according to the ASTM D1894-01 method.

Polyethylene compounds having non-migratory slip properties

A masterbatch having epoxy-functionalized silicone as a slip additive, the polypropylene compound that the silicone-containing masterbatch has been let down into, and the plastic articles and films from such compounds having improved slip properties are disclosed. The improved slip properties are evidenced by (1) essentially no migration of the slip additive 12 weeks after manufacturing, (2) a dynamic coefficient of friction value of less than 0.4 and a static coefficient of friction 0.6 or less within the first day of manufacturing according to the ASTM D1894-01 method, and (3) less than 15% change in the dynamic and static coefficient of friction values between the first day of manufacturing and 20 days after manufacturing.

Polypropylene compounds having non-migratory slip properties

A concentric insulation sleeve is disclosed having multi-layered structure. The outer layer exhibits low smoke and fume and non-halogen properties important for use of fiber optic cable assemblies in confined space susceptible to combustion conditions. The inner layer exhibits anti-static properties, and optionally slippery properties, to make the assembly of fiber strands in the insulation less charged with static electricity. The cable can become associated with other cables and serve as mini-ducts and then be surrounded by another insulation sleeve of the same construction to form a cable duct.

A polymer composition is disclosed for containers for beverages, films and sheets for food. The composition comprises (a) polyester, (b) an acetaldehyde scavenger, (c) an acid absorber, and (d) an antioxidant. The acetaldehyde scavenger is characterized as small molecules, such as anthranilamide, that include at least two hydrogen-substituted heteroatoms bonded to carbons of the organic additive compound such that the organic additive compound is reactive with acetaldehyde in the polyester to form water and a resulting organic compound comprising an unbridged 5- or 6-member ring including the at least two heteroatoms. The acid absorber is a hydrotalcite-like composition. The polymer compound can be concentrated in a masterbatch or fully let-down. Optional ingredients include colorants, and optical brighteners. Discoloration of the polyester is reduced during the performance of acetaldehyde scavenging.
