A method fabricates a heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) transducer having an air-bearing surface (ABS) and that is optically coupled with a laser. The method includes providing a waveguide for directing light from the laser toward the ABS and providing a write pole having a pole tip with an ABS location facing the surface. The pole tip is in a down track direction from the waveguide. The method also includes providing at least one shield including a shield pedestal. The shield pedestal is in the down track direction from the pole tip. At least one protective pad is provided adjacent to the write pole and between the ABS location and the shield pedestal.

Method for providing a heat assisted magnetic recording transducer having protective pads

A method for fabricating a structure in a magnetic recording transducer is described. A trench having sidewalls converging in a corner and a depth is formed. A dielectric layer is deposited using physical vapor deposit (PVD). The dielectric layer thickness is not more than one-half of the trench depth. A remaining portion of the trench is unfilled by the dielectric layer and has a top and a bottom. A portion of the dielectric layer is plasma etched. The plasma etch removes the portion of the dielectric layer at the top of the trench at a first rate and removes the portion of the dielectric layer at the bottom of the remaining portion of the trench at a second rate less than the first rate. An additional dielectric layer is deposited, also using PVD. The plasma etch and additional dielectric layer depositing steps are optionally repeated until the trench is filled.

Method for providing a structure having reduced voids in a magnetic recording transducer

Systems and methods for fabricating a microelectric device are provided herein. Particular embodiments provide systems and methods for fabricating a magnetic recording pole for a magnetic recording head, such as an energy assisted magnetic recording (EAMR) head commonly used in a disk storage device. Some embodiments provide for systems and methods of fabricating magnetic recording poles that protect the core of the magnetic recording head during the removal of removal of seed layers.

System and method for fabricating a magnetic recording pole

A magnetometer with only a SET operation for initiating a magnetic orientation within a magnetic field sensor based on anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR) technology. Within the magnetometer, the relative orientations of the respective X, Y and Z axes detectors are maintained by a package in which all detectors are mounted on a single assembly with the Z axis sensor displaced and held orthogonal to the other two sensors by potting material. Shorting bars on respective barber pole structures are provided with a geometry that allows for closer placement of adjacent barber poles to one another. The barber pole structures are deposited in a nested orientation which provides for balanced resistance legs in a Wheatstone bridge construction.

Magnetometer

An energy assisted magnetic recording (EAMR) transducer coupled with a laser is described. The EAMR transducer has an air-bearing surface (ABS) residing near a media during use. The laser provides energy. The transducer includes a waveguide, a near field transducer (NFT) proximate to the ABS, a write pole, a heat spreader, and at least one coil. The waveguide directs the energy from the laser toward the ABS. The NFT is optically coupled with the waveguide, focuses the energy onto the media, and includes a disk having an NFT width. The write pole writes to the media. The heat spreader is thermally coupled with the NFT. A first portion of the heat spreader is between the NFT and the pole, is between the ABS and a second portion of the heat spreader, and has a first width. The second portion has a second width greater than the first width.
