An item location system uses voice activation and responsiveness to identify location(s) of item(s) sought by a user. The system may include a continuous speech recognition digital signal processor, a programmable microprocessor interfaced therewith, voice input and user feedback mechanisms, including audio and/or video feedback. Some embodiments utilize audio feedback to the user. The system also includes sufficient software and equipment to create item-identification/corresponding location-identification data pairs by utilizing item identifying bar codes on the items and matching them to location identifying bar codes physically situated on the corresponding locations. The continuous speech recognition engine may utilize Hidden Markov Models to create real time continuous speech recognition and feedback.

The central processor includes: (b)(i) user input means; (b)(ii) text-to-speech means; (b)(iii) wave file means to create a wave file from the text-to-speech means; and (b)(iv) wireless transmission means to transmit the wave file to the microprocessor wave file receiving chips of a plurality of OTC containers simultaneously. Wireless transmission may be radio frequency (RF) transmission systems, infrared (IR) transmission systems and any other wireless transmission systems that are now available or may become available.

A speech enabled automatic name dialer dialing system for connection to a telephone system, includes a user computer with a computer-based address book program for retrieval of name-telephone number data for creation of speech enabling phoneme sets for auto dialing by speaking a name, and utilizing telephone application programming interface (TAPI), for use with a telephone systems having telephones with private branch exchanges. There is at least one user computer having a microphone and a speaker; a telephone application programming interface provider installed in the user computer; and at least one loaded address book program or equivalent name-telephone number data base contained in the user computer. The software for the user computer, which accesses the data base, creates the phonemes from names of data sets, receives voice inputs, matches the voice input phonemes to the data and signals to a router and PBX to initiate dialing.

The present invention a speech enabled automatic telephone dialer device uses a spoken name corresponding to name-telephone number data. User telephones are connected to a public service telephony mechanism. The name dialer device includes a host computer in a network; a telephony board for controlling the telephony mechanism for dialing; memory within the host computer for storing software and name-telephone number data; and, software to access computer-based address book programs, to receive voice inputs from the telephony mechanism, to create converted phonemes from names to match voice inputs with specific name-telephone number data from the computer-based address book programs for initiating an automatic dialing. In other embodiments, there is no host computer or computer network, and a stand alone computer system with the aforesaid features is described.
