A technique facilitates actuation of flow control valves or other types of downhole devices. According to an embodiment, the downhole devices are coupled with corresponding first hydraulic control lines for hydraulically actuating each downhole device to a first operational position. The downhole devices also are coupled to a common second hydraulic control line which may be used in cooperation with selective hydraulic circuits to actuate individual downhole devices to a second operational position. For example, an individual selective hydraulic circuit may be coupled between each first hydraulic control line and the common second hydraulic control line at each downhole device. The selective hydraulic circuit is configured to enable actuation of the corresponding downhole device to the second operational position.

System and methodology for selective actuation of a downhole device

A technique provides a desired control over incremental actuation of hydraulic devices. A hydraulically actuated tool is combined with a control module. The hydraulically actuated tool has an actuator piston positioned in a piston chamber and movable between operating positions. The control module comprises a hydraulic indexing circuit arranged to enable incremental movement of the actuator piston in a first direction and full stroke movement in a second direction based on hydraulic input delivered via control lines. The hydraulic indexing circuit comprises an indexing piston system and at least one check valve working in cooperation with the indexing piston system to enable the incremental and full stroke movements.

Hydraulic indexing system

A technique facilitates flow control downhole via at least one flow control valve. According to an example, a flow control valve has an internal piston. Additionally, an electrically powered actuator is mounted externally to the flow control valve and connected to the internal piston via a linkage. The electrically powered actuator is responsive to electrical inputs to shift the internal piston to desired flow positions of the flow control valve.

Full bore electric flow control valve system

A technique facilitates actuation of a downhole device, e.g. a flow control valve. The downhole device is shifted between positions by an actuator piston, which is movable in a first direction via hydraulic actuating fluid supplied by a first control line and in a second direction via hydraulic actuating fluid supplied by a second control line. A hydraulic circuit is coupled between the first control line and the second control line to enable a complete stroke of the actuator piston in one direction, e.g. the second direction, while limiting movement of the actuator piston to incremental movements in the other direction, e.g. the first direction. The hydraulic circuit employs a hydraulic enabled regulator having a plurality of pistons arranged to control the supply of hydraulic actuating fluid to achieve the desired incremental movements of the actuator piston.

System and methodology for controlling actuation of devices downhole

A technique facilitates both actuation of a well tool and chemical injection at a corresponding well zone or well zones. In a multi-zone operation, the well system may comprise a plurality of operating modules coupled with corresponding actuators and chemical injection devices. The well system is deployed downhole to a desired location in a borehole, e.g. a wellbore. The operating modules may be selectively shifted via electrical input to enable a desired chemical injection and/or actuation of the actuator (and thus the well tool) at desired well zones. In some embodiments, the operating modules may comprise contingency circuits to enable the chemical injection without electrical input.

Chemical injection system

A technique facilitates operation of an actuator via an operating module. The actuator and the operating module are constructed to enable operation in a wide variety of environments and applications. The operating module is coupled to the actuator and is operable in a plurality of modes, such as an electro-hydraulic mode, a pure hydraulic mode, and a mechanical mode. A desired mode of operation is selected and the operating module enables shifting of the actuator via the selected mode.

Multi-mode control module

A self-cleaning filter includes a housing disposing a filter media having a permeable sidewall and an axial bore connected with the inlet conduit, a sleeve connected in-line with the axial bore and downstream of the inlet conduit, and a shuttle having a piston moveably disposed in the sleeve and an upstream element carrying a scraper disposed with the axial bore, whereby the hydraulic fluid flows from the inlet conduit through the permeable sidewall into the housing annulus and the hydraulic pressure in the axial bore applies a downward force on the shuttle. The scraper is moved downstream within axial bore to clean the filter media when the downward force due to the increased differential pressure across the filter media exceeds an upstream shuttle force.

Self-cleaning filter

A controllable, multi-zone control system is provided for controlling the inflow of fluids into a completion, e.g. a lateral completion, at a plurality of well zones. According to an embodiment, flow control devices are distributed along the completion and a control module is positioned between the flow control devices, e.g. in a middle region of the completion. The control module is supplied with hydraulic actuating fluid and is electrically controllable to enable selective distribution of the hydraulic actuating fluid to selected flow control devices. The control module may be controlled via electric signals, thus controlling distribution of hydraulic actuating fluid under pressure to selected flow control devices so as to shift the selected flow control devices to a desired open or closed flow position.

Active flow control with multizone hydraulic power distribution module

A magnetic particle filter for a hydraulic control line is disclosed. A filter array is positioned to surround a portion of the hydraulic control line and includes alternating magnets and spacers having different interior diameters forming a ribbed interior surface. The corners between the spacers and magnets trap particles, magnetic and non-magnetic, thus removing them from the hydraulic control line.

In-line magnetic particle filter

A technique facilitates controlling flow in a wellbore. One or more flow control valve assemblies may be designed for coupling with downhole well equipment. Each flow control valve assembly comprises a flow control valve which cooperates with a control module. The control module comprises a plurality of electrically controlled valves arranged to control flow of actuating fluid to the flow control valve. Each flow control valve assembly also comprises a hydraulic override system to enable hydraulic actuation of the flow control valve to a predetermined position when, for example, no electrical power is available for the electrically controlled valves of the control module.

System and method for controlling flow in a wellbore

A technique facilitates controlling fluid flows, such as fluid flows in a downhole well zone or zones. A flow control valve is employed to control a fluid flow and is operationally linked with an injection valve. Actuation of the flow control valve is used to automatically actuate the injection valve between corresponding positions allowing or blocking fluid injection. Closing or opening of the flow control valve thus results in a desired corresponding action of the injection valve, such as blocking flow or allowing flow through the injection valve.

A valve position sensor of a sliding sleeve of a flow control valve comprising a sleeve displacement converting means for converting a sleeve displacement into a radial displacement, and a measuring means for detecting the radial displacement and correlating the radial displacement to the position of the sliding sleeve within the flow control valve.

A system that is usable with a well may include a piston, a primary control subsystem and an override subsystem. The piston actuates the downhole tool, and the primary control subsystem may be connected to at least one hydraulic line in order to move the piston in response to pressure that is communicated to the tool via the hydraulic line(s). The override subsystem may be connected to the hydraulic line(s) to override the primary control subsystem and move the piston in response to pressure communicated to the tool via the hydraulic line(s).
