This invention is a compact and portable apparatus directed toward measuring the coefficients of both static and sliding friction or slip resistance occurring between two surfaces. Means are provided for determining and recording data to establish such friction accurately, repeatably, and in a form suitable for computer entry and data processing. Improvement over the prior art is provided with respect to mechanical configuration, ease of use, plus the acquisition and analysis of data, particularly for conditions involving wet or damp surfaces. A method is disclosed for essentially automatic determination of coefficient of friction.

Slip friction measurement and recording apparatus

Each of three or more telescopic filters in pairs of filters and detectors therefor has very narrow passband lines centered about laser wavelengths and nearby guardbands. As defined, a passband is any wavelength region of the spectrum permitted by a system to pass through to a detector, and a guardband is a spectral region near but not including the laser lines of interest. Each laser wavelength is simultaneously detected in exactly two detectors. Associated with each wavelength is a guardband near that wavelength, which is used to detect and reject broader band radiation. False alarms are made rare by proper parameter selection.

System and method for detection and identification of laser wavelengths

Spectral analyzer and direction indicator systems (10,20,30,40,50) are disclosed and include optical elements (11,17,27b,33b,35b,39b) for providing optical information which depend on incidence direction and spectral content, and further includes optical elements (23,27a,33a,35a,39a) for providing non-diffracted optical information which depend on incidence direction. The respective optical information as detected by detector arrays (15,21,25,31,37) are utilized together to provide information for specifically identifying spectral content and incidence direction of collimated or nearly collimated radiation.

Spectral analyzer and direction indicator

A spectral analyzer and direction indicator system (10) is disclosed and includes first and second optical channels (20,30) for providing detected optical information indicative of incidence direction and spectral content of incident radiation. The first optical channel includes a reflector element (11) having a non-ruled section (11a) and a spectrally dispersing ruled section (11b); an analytical optical system (13); and a detector array (15). In the reflector element of the first optical channel the non-ruled section is tilted relative to the ruled section. The second optical channel includes a non-dispersing reflector element (17), an analytical optical system (19), and a detector array (21).
