In a first aspect, the present invention is directed to a rubber composition comprising 70 phr to 95 phr of styrene butadiene rubber comprising at least 5 phr of a first styrene butadiene rubber having a glass transition temperature within a range of −49° C. to −15° C. and at least 45 phr of a second styrene butadiene rubber having a glass transition temperature within a range of −50° C. to −89° C., wherein the rubber composition comprises more of the second styrene butadiene rubber than of the first styrene butadiene rubber. Moreover, the rubber composition comprises 5 phr to 30 phr of one or more of natural rubber and synthetic polyisoprene; 135 phr to 200 phr of silica; and at least 55 phr of at least one hydrocarbon resin comprising at least one terpene resin having a glass transition temperature of at least 30° C.

Rubber composition and a tire

In a first aspect, the present invention is directed to a rubber composition comprising 70 phr to 90 phr of styrene butadiene rubber, wherein said styrene butadiene rubber comprises a first styrene butadiene rubber having a glass transition temperature within a range of &#x2212;49&#xb0; C. to &#x2212;15&#xb0; C. and a second styrene butadiene rubber having a glass transition temperature within a range of &#x2212;50&#xb0; C. to &#x2212;89&#xb0; C. Furthermore, the rubber composition comprises from 10 phr to 30 phr of one or more of natural rubber and synthetic polyisoprene rubber, 100 phr to 200 phr of silica, and at least 25 phr of at least one terpene resin having a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of at most 1000 g/mol. Moreover, the invention is directed to a tire comprising such a rubber composition, in particular in the tread of the tire.

The present invention is directed to a pneumatic tire comprising a tread, the tread comprising a rubber composition comprising from 30 to 80 phr of a styrene-butadiene rubber having a Tg ranging from &#x2212;70 C to &#x2212;40 C, from 10 to 50 phr of a high vinyl polybutadiene having a Tg ranging from &#x2212;40 C to &#x2212;5 C and has an isomeric vinyl 1,2 content in a range of from 50 to 90 percent by weight, and from 10 to 30 phr of a natural rubber or synthetic polyisoprene, silica, a blocked mercaptosilane, a traction resin, and liquid plasticizer selected from the group consisting of a low molecular weight polybutadiene functionalized with a hydroxyl functional group and sunflower oil.

A pneumatic tire comprising a carcass and a tread located radially outward of the carcass and extending between the tire sidewalls is disclosed. The tread provides a tread running surface and comprises a first, radially outer tread layer comprising a first rubber compound and a second, radially inner tread layer comprising a second rubber compound, wherein the second tread layer is located radially adjacent to the first tread layer, and wherein the first rubber compound is different from the second rubber compound. The second tread layer comprises a plurality of integrally formed extensions of the second tread layer extending from the second tread layer radially outwardly to the tread running surface.
