The disclosed airbrush has an elongated body formed in one piece, as by a molding from plastics material, having an internal cylindrical bore defining a cavity in which other elements are contained. A carrier member assembled within and sealed for a portion of its length to the cylindrical bore supports the point of a needle at a predetermined distance from the forward end of the body and has an internal passageway for the paint. The cylindrical bore is closed at its forward end by a cap threadably attached to the body, inside which is threadably secured a jet through which the point of the needle extends. The carrier member is shaped to provide, in association with the internal bore of the body, a passage for air to the cap and jet region of the airbrush. Adjustment of the longitudinal position of the cap on the body moves the jet with respect to the stationary needle to provide regulation of the amount of paint flow.

Airbrush

An airbrush of the double action type has an elongated unitary body having an axial passage for longitudinal movement of a needle supported therein. The rear end of the needle is carried by a guide slidably supported in the axial passage and normally urged by a spring in a direction such that the tapered front of the needle enters and closes the jet. A finger-operated lever formed of plastic and shaped to provide a 'living hinge' is supported in the body and arranged to engage the guide and move the needle against the action of the spring to control paint flow, and at the same time to open a valve to allow entry of compressed air or other substance under pressure. The maximum paint flow at the fully-operated position of the control lever is predetermined by adjusting the longitudinal position on the body of a closure cap which limits the movement of the guide. The airbrush has a minimum number of easily assembled parts and features a relatively simple paint-to-air seal disposed within the axial passageway.

A safety cap for a hand-held cutting knife of the type having a cylindrical handle to one end of which a blade is detachably secured. The cap, formed of transparent plastic material, is shaped and dimensioned to enclose the knife blade and part of the handle for safety when the knife is not in use and to receive and be secured to the rear end of the handle when the knife is in use.

A hand-held cutter for cutting sheet material, such as framing mats, which includes a body member of hemispheroidal shape, the diametral plane of which constitutes a flat bottom for moving over the sheet material. The body member has on the external surface thereof a pair of spaced-apart flat vertically oriented guiding surfaces between which are provided a pair of cutting blade-receiving slots, one disposed vertically and the other disposed at an angle with respect to the vertical. A cutting blade placed in either of the blade-receiving slots, after being adjusted to the desired cutting depth, is locked in position by a clamp which is actuated by a thumb-wheel which is largely contained within the body member.

Cutter for sheet material

A swivel knife that is convertible for use as a conventional knife wherein the blade is rigidly mounted. A tubular housing having front and rear ends has an elongated generally cylindrical stem mounted therein and normally rotatable with respect thereto. The stem has a blade-holding end at the front of the housing and a free end at the rear of the housing. The stem is proportioned at the free end to be radially spaced from the housing. A cap member is provided in the shape of a hollow generally cylindrical shell proportioned to be forcibly inserted in the space between the housing and the free end to prevent relative rotation of the stem in the housing.

Convertible swivel knife

A knife having an easily removable blade has an elongated tubular housing having front and rear ends. An elongated stem is proportioned to fit slidably in the housing, the stem widening circumferentially in tapered fashion at the front end of the housing to define a blade-holding chuck having a blade-holding slot. The chuck is circumferentially proportioned to be compressed within the housing when the stem is slid rearwardly so as to contract the width of the slot to a blade-grasping width. A toggle lever is pivotally mounted on the stem at the rear end of the housing, the lever having a beveled edge opposing the rear edge of the housing and adapted, when the toggle lever is pivotally urged to a position essentially colinear with the housing, to contact said rear edge and forcibly slide the stem rearwardly in the housing so as to contract the blade-receiving slot. When the toggle lever is at an angle with respect to the housing, the stem is allowed to slide frontwardly in the housing so as to permit expansion of the slot to a blade-receiving width. In a preferred embodiment the rear end of the stem is ball-shaped and the toggle lever is mounted on the ball-shaped end and pivots thereon. In this embodiment the toggle lever and the ball-shaped end have aligned bores therethrough, and a pin extends through the bores for retaining the toggle lever on the stem and allowing the pivoting motion of the lever. The stem is formed of two threaded portions to facilitate assembly and adjustment of the knife.
