A method, system, and computer-program product for flexible balance management using reservation consumption are disclosed. For example, a method according to embodiments of the methods and systems disclosed herein includes receiving a request message and, in response to the receiving the request message, updating a consumed reservation balance.

Method and apparatus for flexible balance management using reservation consumption

Embodiments of the present invention provide techniques for distributing the timing of reauthorization requests. In one embodiment, a request to authorize a subscriber of a service to consume a quantity of the service is received and a delay time period is calculated. The delay time period is based on the resources available to the subscriber (e.g., remaining balance in a subscriber account, credit limit, etc.), and/or other configurable thresholds. The subscriber is then authorized to consume the quantity of service over a period of time extending to the time of a service pricing change, plus the delay time period. In this manner, network spikes resulting from the receipt of multiple, simultaneous reauthorization requests at the times of service pricing changes are avoided, without increasing the credit risk to the service operator/provider.

Systems and method are described for providing advice of promotion to notify a subscriber about potential promotions that the subscriber would benefit from if he/she changed the context under which he/she plans to use a service. The process begins when a subscriber initiates a request to use the service, e.g. establish a call session. The operator identifies the subscriber by determining whether the subscriber is permitted to use the service, e.g. establish the session, and calculates a charge rate for the service usage, e.g. call session based on a usage plan associated with the subscriber. A rating engine is then invoked to identify a promotion that includes an additional rate that is different from the charge rate determined for the session. The promotion is identified based on parameters associated with the call session by determining which additional rate would apply if at least one of those parameters were modified.

Methods, machine-readable media, and apparatuses are disclosed for interfacing computer networks. According to one embodiment, a method for interfacing a first network using a first protocol with a second network using a second protocol can comprise receiving an event in the form of a first message from the first network, where the first message is encoded using the first protocol. The first message can be translated into a second message, where the second message is encoded using the second protocol. The second message can be transmitted to the second network. If a response is not received from the second network within a configurable interval, the event can be processed based upon at least one rule that is responsive to the event. A third message can then be transmitted to the first network, where the third message is responsive to the first message and is encoded in the first protocol.
