Apparatus and a corresponding method for its use, for detecting and tracking targets in an optical field of view. The apparatus includes conventional telescopic optics to gather light from the field of view, beam splitters to divide the resultant beam into three sub-beams, three linear arrays of detectors, and three cylindrical lens systems to focus the three beams onto the detector arrays. Two of the arrays provide azimuth-angle and elevation-angle information concerning possible target positions, and the third is oriented at an angle to the first two, to provide information to resolve any ambiguities as to the target locations. The linear arrays can be scanned much more rapidly than a rectangular array, and higher resolutions can therefore be obtained without any sacrifice in processing speed.

Imaging optical tracker

A lightweight (i.e., less than 50 kg) optical jammer system for use with a satellite in earth orbit. The jammer system is mounted on the satellite and produces an obfuscating programmable signature of concentrated sunlight which is modulated and directed to earth. A potential enemy observer on earth is thereby prevented from ascertaining the general mission of the satellite, because the known reflected sunlight signature of the satellite is masked.

Pulsed holographic system having independent universal beam adjustment

A holographic optics orientation assembly for a holographic recording unit having a laser holographic recording system for recording holograms of subjects situated within a holographic recording field of the recording system. The orientation assembly is adjustable to adjust or shift the recording field without moving the entire recording unit and thereby permit pointing or aiming of the recording system at a selected subject without moving the entire unit.

Universal holographic optics orientation assembly

An optics module for use in a holographic borehole instrument which is operable to determine the stress in the wall of a borehole by recording successively on the same holographic recording medium two holograms of a selected surface region of the wall and, in the interval between the two recordings, drilling a stress relief hole in the wall in stress relieving relation to the selected surface region to produce on the recording medium a double exposure hologram containing holographic information representing the stress. The optics module embodies a frame which adjustably mounts the optical elements of the holographic system of the instrument in a manner which facilitates initial alignment of the system and preserves the alignment during instrument operation.

Optics module for borehole stress measuring instrument

An instrument for determining the stress in the wall of a borehole by recording successively on the same holographic recording medium two holograms of a selected surface region of the wall, and, in the interval between the two recordings, forming a stress relief in the wall in stress relieving relation to the surface region to produce on the recording medium a double exposure hologram. This hologram contains holographic information which represents the stress in the wall in the vicinity of the surface region and may be converted to data defining the magnitude and direction of the stress.
