A method of controlling a vehicle-trailer unit includes recording, with an electronic control unit for a trailer assist system, a plurality of maneuvers of the vehicle-trailer unit as each maneuver is executed in an original direction of travel. The method also includes retrieving the recorded plurality of maneuvers in response to an initiating of a tight spot reversal feature for the trailer assist system. The method further includes instructing vehicle systems to perform the retrieved recorded plurality of maneuvers in the reverse order and direction of travel in which they were recorded.

Driver misuse of an automatic braking system is determined by comparing the amount of time that a vehicle moves rearwardly until it is stopped, to the amount of time after the last actuation of a brake pedal and when the vehicle is stopped. Each misuse occurrence increments a counter that is stored in a non-transitory memory device.

A method of avoiding a collision while operating a vehicle in reverse comprises detecting an object proximate to a vehicle with at least one sensor including detecting objects located along side of a vehicle and determining a predicted vehicle path, including a tracking path for front wheels of the vehicle. A probability is determined with a controller located within the vehicle of collision of one of the front corner and a side of the vehicle with the object while the vehicle is travelling in reverse and at least one collision avoidance response is determined with the controller based on the probability of collision.

A method of controlling a backing system for a vehicle and trailer assembly comprises initiating a backing system mode with an electronic control unit (ECU) for the backing system when a start system input is received from a control device. At least one input is received by the ECU from the control device which includes information about a desired vehicle action. The ECU interprets from the at least one input the desired vehicle action and calculates a required vehicle response to achieve the desired vehicle action. The ECU then sends a request to at least one vehicle system to perform the calculated vehicle response.

A brake system for a motor vehicle comprises a first brake set and second brake set. A first hydraulic brake circuit is connected to the first brake set and a second hydraulic brake circuit is connected to the second brake set. The first control module is configured to control fluid pressure within both the first hydraulic brake circuit and the second hydraulic brake circuit. The first control module is disposed in series with the second control module in the first and the second hydraulic brake circuits. Additionally, a virtual driver sends a deceleration request to the first control module and the second control module. The first control module and the second control module determine a desired pressure based upon the deceleration request. The first brake control module controls fluid pressure within both the first and the second hydraulic brake circuits to perform the deceleration request. The second control module monitors pressure downstream from the first control module and compares the monitored pressure to the desired pressure.
