A method is provided for processing resistivity data associated with a formation. The resistivity data relating to the formation proximate to a wellbore is obtained. The resistivity data is divided in to a preconfigured plurality of bins, wherein the resistivity data associated with each bin is measured in the direction or the range of directions corresponding to the bin. A rose diagram is generated for a portion of the resistivity data associated with a measured depth of the wellbore. The rose diagram includes a circle divided into a plurality of sectors, wherein each sector corresponds to a bin. Each sector visually represents the resistivity data relating to the formation in a direction or range of directions from the wellbore corresponding to the bin. The generated rose diagram is rendered for display. The rendered rose diagram displays the resistivity data in a cross-section perpendicular to the wellbore at the corresponding measured depth.

Evaluation and visualization of azimuthal resistivity data

The disclosure presents processes that utilize collected resistivity data, for example, from an ultra-deep resistivity tool located downhole a borehole. In some aspects, each slice of resistivity data can generate multiple distribution curves that can be overlaid offset resistivity logs. In some aspects, an analysis can be performed to identify trends in the distribution curves that can be used to identify approximate locations of subterranean formation surfaces, shoulder beds, obstacles, proximate boreholes, and other borehole and geological characteristics. As the number of distribution curves generated increase, the confidence in the analysis also increases. In some aspects, the number of distribution curves can be twenty, one hundred, one hundred and one, or other counts of distribution curves. In some aspects, the resistivity data can be used to generate two or more synchronized view perspectives of a specific location along the borehole, where each view perspective uses the same focus area.

Utilizing resistivity distribution curves for geological or borehole correlations

Correlating true vertical depths for a measured depth

Processes utilize collected resistivity data from an ultra-deep resistivity tool located downhole a borehole. A machine learning system (MLS) can be utilized to analyze and process the resistivity data. Directions can be generated using the resistivity data that is communicated to other systems, such as a geo-steering, an evaluation, or other borehole systems. In some aspects, a recommendation can be generated that includes subterranean formation characteristics with the directions. The recommendation can be used by a user system to approve or reject the directions prior to being communicated to a borehole system or geo-steering system. In some aspects, a confidence level can be generated with the directions or recommendation, and the confidence level can be evaluated whether it satisfies a confidence level threshold. In some aspects, when the confidence level threshold is satisfied, the directions can be automatically communicated to the geo-steering system without user review.

Utilizing resistivity distribution curves to improve geo-steering

Utilizing resistivity data for multiple view perspectives for geo-steering

This disclosure presents a process to determine an alignment parameter for geosteering a wellbore undergoing drilling operations. The process can receive one or more azimuthal image log data sets, one or more geology logs, and other input parameters. The image log data sets can be transformed to better approximate the geology logs, such as transforming a 3D representation to a 2D representation and flattening out curves represented in the original image log data. The geology logs or transformed image log data can then be moved to create an approximate alignment between the other log data. The movement, which can be a sliding movement, a linear movement, a tilting movement, an angling movement, or a rotating movement, can be used to determine the determined alignment parameter or final alignment parameter. The alignment parameter can be used as input into a geosteering system for the wellbore.

Determining a geological correlation with a wellbore position

A cross sectional representation of a geological surface is displayed on a display screen. A segment of the cross-sectional representation is edited, and a pseudo log of formation properties based on the edited segment is displayed on the display screen. A determination is made whether formation properties associated with the pseudo log match actual formation properties measured during drilling of a well and a signal is output indicative of the match. A drill operator may use a structural model determined based on the edited geological surface to drill for hydrocarbons in the formation.

Visualizing and editing a representation of a geological surface

A method is provided for processing sensor data associated with a formation. The sensor data is obtained and divided into a plurality of voxels in a three-dimensional environment. Each voxel corresponds to a location in the formation surrounding a wellbore. A selection of a first point in the three-dimensional environment corresponding to a first position along the wellbore is received. A selection of a first two-dimensional shape intersecting the first point is received. A selection of a second point corresponding to a second position different from the first position along the wellbore is received. A three-dimensional volume containing a subset of the plurality of voxels of sensor data is generated. The three-dimensional volume is bound at least by the first point and the first two-dimensional shape at a first end and by the second point at a second end. The generated three-dimensional volume is rendered for output on a display.

Evaluation and visualization of well log data in selected three-dimensional volume

The disclosed embodiments include systems and methods to evaluate a formation dip of a formation bedding. The system includes memory configured to store a color image indicative of a log of a formation bedding. The system also includes a processor configured to execute instructions to filter colors of the color image to determine one or more cusps of the formation dip, and cross correlate a reference wave with the one or more cusps of the formation dip to match curvatures of the reference wave with the one or more cusps of the formation dip illustrated in the color image, wherein the curvatures of the reference wave are based on one or more parameters of the formation bedding. The processor is further operable to generate a wave that matches the one or more cusps of the formation dip with the reference wave, where the wave is indicative of the formation dip.

Formation dip evaluation system

The disclosed embodiments include systems and methods to evaluate formation resistivity. The method includes obtaining, from a downhole tool deployed in a borehole, a plurality of values of formation resistivity of a downhole formation proximate the borehole. The method also includes generating a plurality of two-dimensional renderings of the formation resistivity based on the plurality of values, wherein each two-dimensional rendering of the plurality of two-dimensional renderings illustrates an inversion of the formation resistivity along a plane of the downhole formation. The method further includes generating a volumetric rendering of the formation resistivity of the downhole formation from the plurality of two-dimensional renderings, wherein the volumetric rendering comprises a plurality of two-dimensional planes, and wherein each two-dimensional plane of the plurality of two-dimensional planes illustrates an inversion of formation resistivity along the respective plane. The method further includes providing the volumetric rendering for display on an electronic device.

Formation resistivity evaluation system

The disclosed embodiments include systems and methods to evaluate formation resistivity. In one embodiment, a method to evaluate formation resistivity proximate a wellbore is provided. The methods includes receiving data indicative of resistivity measurements of a formation proximate a wellbore at different distances within a range of distances from the wellbore. The method also includes analyzing the data to determine approximate formation resistivity of the formation at different distances from the wellbore. The method further includes generating at least one curve, each indicative of an approximate formation resistivity of the formation at the different distances from the wellbore, overlaying the at least one curve on a graph indicative of the formation resistivity of the formation within the range of distances from the wellbore, and providing the at least one curve overlaid on the graph for display on a device.
