Method and apparatus for improving signal integrity in a high speed flex cable

A device and method are provided for reducing impedance, impedance discontinuities, and signal-loop area in flex cables used for a signal path. In one embodiment of the invention, a flex cable is provided for reducing the impedance and length of a return-signal path. The flex cable includes a signal conductor, and a return-signal conductor not connected to ground. The flex cable may also include a ground conductor. Such a flex cable provides a shorter- and lower-impedance return-signal path between a signal source and receiver than do conventional flex cables. In another embodiment of the invention, a method is provided that includes the steps of delivering a signal from a signal source to a signal receiver with a flexible conductor, and returning the signal from the signal receiver to the signal source with another flexible conductor other than ground.

In one embodiment, a method is provided that comprises the steps of controlling a speed of the at least one cooling fan in response to a temperature of the cabinet, and, controlling the speed of the at least one cooling fan in response to a position of an access panel relative to the cabinet.

An embodiment of a cable system includes a cable that has a conductor, a power layer and dielectric material. The conductor is operative to carry a signal, the dielectric material is located at least partially between the conductor and the power layer, and the power layer is operative as ground. The power layer is formed of a conductive material and includes a first region and an adjacent second region. The first region includes a greater amount of the conductive material than the second region so that the power layer is less resistant to bending along the second region than along the first region. Methods and other systems are also provided.

Cable systems and related methods

A low profile actuator assembly for controlling PCI card removal from the chassis bay of a hot pluggable computer. The assembly includes a housing, a switch and a latch body. The housing is adapted for mounting to the bay and is defined by a top, bottom, and a front. The switch is coupled to the housing bottom and is operable in a first state and a second state. In this regard, the first state is indicative of a power-on condition, whereas the second state is indicative of a power-off condition. The latch body is connected to the housing and is operatively associated with the switch. More particularly, the latch body is linearly slidably between a retention position and a release position. In the retention position, the latch body is extended relative to the housing front and causes the switch to operate in the first state. Conversely, in the released position, the latch body is retracted relative to the housing front and causes the switch to operate in the second state. In one preferred embodiment, the assembly further includes a push button coupled to the housing adjacent the latch body for prompting a powering down condition.

The present invention provides a baffle for use with an electronic system including a wall, a first edge guide, and a second edge guide. The wall has a first edge and a second edge opposite the first. The first edge guide is connected to the wall and extends beyond the first edge of the wall. The first edge guide and the second edge guide are adapted to selectively associate with a first card guide and a second card guide of the modular electronic system. A circuit board programming/debugging arrangement and method includes a circuit board and frame assembly and a programming/debugging device. The assembly includes a printed circuit board, a first frame section coupled to the circuit board and at least one second frame section coupled to at least one of the circuit board and the first frame section. The second frame section is movable from an operational position to a non-interfering programming/debugging position wherein the second section would interfere with coupling of the programming/debugging device to the circuit board. The programming/debugging device is coupled to the circuit board while the at least one second frame section is in the programming/debugging position.

Systems for electrically interconnecting components are provided.
