Polymer compositions containing a polyoxymethylene base polymer that is compounded with a conductive filler, a polyalkylene glycol, and a metal oxide are disclosed that exhibit electrostatic dissipative (ESD) capabilities while also being resistant to degradation upon exposure to aggressive fuels. For instance, the polymer compositions can have a volume resistivity of from about 1 Ohm-cm to about 200 Ohm-cm and a surface resistivity of about 10Ohms to about 10Ohms. Further, the polymer compositions can have a strain at break of from about 15% to about 23%. The polymer compositions can be formed into a shaped or molded article such as a connector, filter housing, baffle, flange, reservoir, port, tube, or pipe, etc. for use in fuel systems where uniform increased conductivity and resistance to aggressive fuels are required.

Conductive polyoxymethylene based on stainless steel fibers

Polymer compositions containing a polyoxymethylene base polymer that is compounded with a conductive filler and pigment carbon black are disclosed that exhibit electrostatic dissipative (ESD) capabilities while also being laser weldable. The polymer composition can be formed into shaped or molded articles such as filters, flanges, connectors, etc. for use in fuel systems where conductivity, ductility, weldability, and resistance to aggressive fuels are required. The compositions can be compounded into a pellet product which can then be formed into a shaped article that complies with the ESD capabilities required by SAE J1645. At the same time, parts produced from the compositions can absorb laser energy sufficiently to form a high quality welded interface with parts produced from other compositions that are transparent to laser radiation and cannot absorb laser energy sufficiently.

Laser-weldable electrostatically dissipative polyoxymethylene based on stainless steel fibers

Polymer compositions containing a polyoxymethylene polymer are disclosed that are receptive to paints and ink coatings. The polymer composition contains a polyoxymethylene polymer having a relatively high functional group content in combination with a coupling agent, a texturizing agent, and optionally a thermoplastic elastomer. The polymer composition can be molded into various articles at a mold temperature less than about 125&#xb0; C., such as from about 60&#xb0; C. to about 120&#xb0; C. and then painted or printed with an ink composition. The polymer composition has been found to dramatically improve adhesion between the molded article and the ink or paint coating.

A method for preparing resin-impregnated graphite articles, including providing a sheet of compressed particles of exfoliated graphite having two major surfaces; impregnating the sheet with a first resin system to form a resin-impregnated sheet; surface treating the resin-impregnated sheet to form at least one structure on at least one of the major surfaces of the sheet to form a surface treated sheet; and treating the sheet with a second resin system.

Dimensionally stable, leak-free graphite substrate

A substrate useful for the formation of, inter alia, a flow field plate for a proton exchange membrane fuel cell, the substrate formed of at least one resin-impregnated sheet of compressed particles of exfoliated graphite comprising two major surfaces, the substrate having an active area with flow field channels thereon, the sheet of compressed particles of exfoliated graphite having a local web thickness in at least about 50% of its active area that is no more than about 55% greater than the minimum web thickness of the active area of the substrate.

Composites are prepared from resin-impregnated flexible graphite materials. Impregnated materials are compressed and cured at elevated temperature and pressure to form structures suitable for uses such as electronic thermal management (ETM) devices, supercapacitors and secondary batteries.

A material useful in a process for embossing a flexible graphite sheet is presented. The inventive material is a flexible graphite sheet which has a preselected void condition which provides the capability of controlling the morphology, and thus the functional characteristics, of the resulting embossed sheet.

A process for preparing a gas permeable flexible graphite sheet is presented. The process includes providing graphite flakes; admixing the graphite flakes with a sacrificial additive to form a graphite mixture; compressing the graphite mixture into a sheet having sacrificial additive dispersed therethrough; and treating the sheet to at least partially remove the sacrificial additive to form a permeable flexible graphite sheet.

Gas permeable flexible graphite sheet material and process therefor

An improved method enables preparation of articles for a variety of applications, including embossing or otherwise shaping to form a variety of articles. A plurality of thin, preferably resin-impregnated, flexible graphite sheets are arranged to form zones in a composite material having a graded density or other characteristic. Variation of properties between zones in the stock material formed is useful for achieving a desired set of properties in the formation of articles such as those useful in electrochemical fuel cells and double-layer capacitors.

Method for preparing composite flexible graphite material

Processes are provided for formation of complex shapes by embossing of a sheet of flexible graphite material. In one approach, a sheet () of material is provided with a variable resin concentration across a selected dimension of the sheet, and the position of the variable which will result in thinner areas in the embossed articles. In a second approach, recesses are provided in the embossing rollers (and/or) to accomodate material flow during embossing. These recesses result in protrusions formed on the articles, which protrusions must then be removed in a machining operation.

Variably impregnated flexible graphite material and method

A graphite article comprising a compressed mass of graphite particles and a reactive lubricant, and a method of producing a graphite articles comprising a compressed mass of graphite particles and a reactive lubricant. The compressed mass of graphite particles may be impregnated with a lubricant and a resin. The lubricant may be a functionalized wax, fatty ester, silicone, or fatty acid. The lubricant may also be partially or fully fluorinated.

Laminates are prepared from resin-impregnated flexible graphite sheets. Impregnated sheets are calendered and layers of the calendered sheets, which may also be coated with a resin adhesive, are stacked into structures which optionally contains layers of metals or plastics. After curing at elevated temperature and pressure, 2500 psi and 150&deg; C., the laminates form dense machinable structures suitable for uses such as electronic thermal management (ETM) devices.
