A distributed monitoring and analytics system is configured to automatically monitor conditions in a remote oil field. The distributed monitoring and analytics system generally includes one or more mobile monitoring units that each includes a vehicle, a sensor package within the vehicle that is configured to produce one or more sensor outputs as the mobile monitoring unit traverses the remote oil field, and an onboard computer configured to process the output from the sensor package. The sensor package can include any number of sensors, including a camera that outputs a video signal for computer vision analysis and a gas detector that outputs a gas detection signal based on the detection of fugitive gas emissions within the remote oil field.

A method for capturing carbon from a source of volatile pollutants includes the steps of capturing a mixture of volatile pollutants and air from the source of volatile pollutants, transporting the volatile pollutant-air mixture to an oxidizer module, converting the volatile pollutants into carbon dioxide within the oxidizer module, transporting the carbon dioxide from the oxidizer module to a contactor, loading the carbon dioxide onto sorbents within the contactor, and separating the carbon dioxide from the loaded sorbents to produce a concentrated carbon dioxide product stream. The step of separating the carbon dioxide from the loaded sorbents may optionally include the steps of passing the loaded sorbents to the oxidizer module, and then heating the loaded sorbents in the oxidizer module with the combustion of the mixture of volatile pollutants and air within the oxidizer module to produce the concentrated carbon dioxide product stream while regenerating the sorbents.

In one example implementation according to aspects of the present disclosure, a method includes performing, by a processing device, an evaluation of an artificial lift approach that can be operated at a well having a subterranean hydrocarbon reservoir, the evaluation being based at least in part on a static factor associated with operating the artificial lift approach in the well and a dynamic factor associated with operating the artificial lift approach at a operating condition. The method further includes generating, by the processing device, an artificial lift plan based at least in part on the evaluation. The method further includes extracting the hydrocarbons from the subterranean hydrocarbon reservoir based on the artificial lift plan by operating, at the well, the artificial lift approach.

A gas vent system for use in a wellbore that includes a substantially horizontal portion is provided. The gas vent system includes a gas vent conduit positioned within the wellbore. The gas vent conduit defining a gas vent intake passage situated within the substantially horizontal portion of the wellbore and configured to facilitate a flow of gaseous substances therethrough. A gas vent valve coupled to the gas vent conduit and situated outside the wellbore. The gas vent valve controls the flow of gaseous substances through the gas vent conduit.

A method for producing fluid hydrocarbons from a subterranean wellbore with a pumping system includes the steps of measuring a first gas-to-liquid ratio of the fluid hydrocarbons and operating a motor within the pumping system to operate at a first rotational speed. The method continues with the steps of measuring a second gas-to-liquid ration of the fluid hydrocarbons with the sensor module, where the second gas-to-liquid ratio is greater than the first gas-to-liquid ratio, and operating the motor at a second rotational speed that is faster than the first rotational speed.

The improved electric submersible pumps comprise an electric motor mechanically coupled to a pumping section. The improved vibrational characteristics of the electric submersible pump are attributed to the presence of one or more rotor bearings selected from the group consisting of herringbone patterned rotor bearings, pressure dam rotor bearings, circumferential groove rotor bearings, and combinations of two or more of any of the foregoing rotor bearings.

A pumping system for use in moving a fluid present within a well casing and through a production tubing is provided. The pumping system includes a housing coupled to the production tubing. The pumping system further includes a first pump coupled to the housing and having a first flow capacity and a second pump coupled to the housing and having a second flow capacity. The second flow capacity is different than the first flow capacity. A motor is coupled to the first pump and the second pump, wherein the motor is configured to selectively operate at least one of the first pump and the second pump based on a flow capacity of the fluid present within the well casing.

A flow control system is provided for a horizontal well production system having a casing, a tube having an intake opening and disposed within the casing, and a gap formed between the casing and the tube. The flow control system includes a valve having an orifice, coupled to the tube and disposed proximate to the intake opening. The flow control system further includes an actuator coupled to the valve and configured to open the valve in response to a presence of a liquid in the gap, proximate to the intake opening, to permit flow of the liquid into the tube via the intake opening, and to close the valve in response to a presence of a gas in the gap, proximate to the intake opening, to prevent flow of the gas into the tube via the intake opening.
