A method for increasing stator cooling airflow in an air cooled electric motor is provided, wherein the air cooled electric motor includes a compressor outlet housing having a motor cavity separator wall and a separator plate defining a separator plate opening, wherein the compressor outlet housing defines a separator plate cavity and a compressor rotor back-face cavity configured to receive a back-face cavity airflow. The motor cavity separator wall separates the separator plate cavity from the compressor rotor back-face cavity and defines a motor cavity separator wall through-hole which communicates the separator plate cavity with the compressor rotor back-face cavity and a motor cooling housing including a motor cooling outlet structure which defines a stator outlet cavity, wherein the separator plate is disposed to separate the stator outlet cavity from the separator plate cavity.

Air cooled electric motor having an increased airflow and a method for increasing the airflow therein

A shrouded impeller includes an impeller having a plurality of blades and configured to rotate about an axis, and a shroud disposed adjacent to the impeller and configured to corotate about the axis with the impeller and translate axially relative to the impeller. A method of varying a geometry of a flow area of the shrouded impeller includes rotating the shroud and the impeller about the axis and axially translating the shroud relative to the impeller to increase or decrease a rate of flow between the shroud and the impeller.

Variable geometry shrouded compressor/blower rotor design

An integrally bladed rotor includes a rotor disk, rotor blade, internal channel and air outlets. The rotor blade includes a body defined by a pressure surface and suction surface between a leading edge and a trailing edge. The internal channel extends radially from the rotor disk internally within the body of the rotor blade. The air outlets are formed proximate the leading edge and extend within the body of the rotor blade to the internal channel.

An additively-manufactured heat exchanger header defines a build plane and a vertical axis defining a build direction that is orthogonal to the build plane. The additively-manufactured heat exchanger header includes a header body that at least partially contains a working fluid, and an upper support structure on the header body. The upper support structure defines an interior edge and includes a branchwork of gussets rising upward and outward from a root point located in the middle region on the header body. The header body defines a middle region, an upper region, and a top extension. The branchwork of gussets forms a number of top vanes, each supporting the top extension. The upper region is oriented over the middle region relative to the vertical axis, and the top extension partially defines the fluid boundary and is oriented over the upper region.
