Methods and systems are provided for a stabilizing device of a crankshaft. In one example, a method may comprise randomizing a shape of each fin of a plurality of fins and a space between each fin. Randomizing the fins may decrease noise production as a result of airflow generated by the fins.

Noise attenuation device for an intake system of an internal combustion engine

A method of controlling a spool valve through feedback and feedforward mechanisms is described. In one example, a method includes actuating a spool valve via a solenoid to advance and retard a hydraulic variable cam timing actuator coupled to a camshaft, and while commanded to a null position to maintain current cam timing, modulating the solenoid with a component at a frequency synchronous to engine firing frequency to counteract cam torque oscillations. In this way, a spool valve may be maintained in a null position despite high cam torque oscillation frequency, thereby retaining oil in a solenoid assembly and improving can timing position.

An intake system of an engine is provided. The intake system including an intake manifold, a vacuum port located in said intake manifold and in an air-flow path downstream of a throttle body and upstream of a plurality of intake runners, the vacuum port including a molded flow disruptor including a cross-beam traversing an outlet of the vacuum port, the cross-beam oriented at an angle between 0 and 90 degrees with respect to an axis of a throat in the intake manifold, and a vacuum passage coupling the vacuum port to a vehicle subsystem.

At least one set of locator pins is provided on the flange of an intake manifold which couple with an orifice provided on the flange of a throttle body to align the two parts to ensure that they are properly oriented when assembled. In addition, through holes are provided on the throttle body flange and threaded inserts are provided on the flange of the intake manifold. The locator pins are coupled with the orifices prior to inserting a bolt through the through holes to engage with the threads of the threaded insert. By providing the locator pins, the two flanges are held in a desired orientation so that the ducts of the two flanges are properly aligned to substantially eliminate a step or mismatch at the interface.
