Compositions may include a pharmaceutical active agent, a high viscosity liquid carrier material (HVLCM), a lactic acid-based polymer, and an organic solvent. Related compositions and methods are also disclosed. For instance, a carrier formulation for controlled release of injectable drugs is disclosed. The formulation may include a non-water soluble high viscosity liquid which may be sucrose acetate isobutyrate, a lactic-acid based polymer which may be a poly(lactic acid)(glycolic acid), and an organic solvent which maintains the composition in a monophasic form at 25&#xb0; C. in one atmosphere. Drug in the formulation may be released upon administration such that less than 10% (e.g. 2-8%) of drug is released in the first 5 hours; 10% to 80% of the drug is released during a period of 5 hours to 7 days after administration; and 10% to 40% of the drug is released gradually over a period of 7 days to 28 days from initial administration. The drug may be an anti-schizophrenia agent delivered by injection.

Compositions and methods involving polymer, solvent, and high viscosity liquid carrier material

Disclosed are formulations and related methods that comprise a non-polymeric, non-water soluble high viscosity liquid carrier material having a viscosity of at least 5,000 cP at 37&#xb0; C. that does not crystallize neat under ambient or physiological conditions; a specified linear polymer comprising lactide repeat units; and one or more solvents that have a solvent capacity.

The invention is directed to a device for delivering an active agent formulation for a predetermined administration period. An impermeable reservoir is divided into a water-swellable agent chamber and an active agent formulation chamber. Fluid from the environment is imbibed through a semipermeable plug into the water-swellable agent chamber and the active agent formulation is released through a back-diffusion regulating outlet. Delivery periods of up to 2 years are achieved.

Injectable depot compositions are provided that include a polymer matrix having a plurality of bioerodible, biocompatible polymers wherein each polymer of the plurality of polymers has a specified average molecular weight, and the polymer matrix has a broad molecular weight distribution of the plurality of polymers; a solvent having a miscibility in water of less than or equal to 7 wt % at 25&#xb0; C., in an amount effective to plasticize the polymer and form a gel therewith; and a beneficial agent. The compositions have substantially improved shear thinning behavior and reduced injection force, rendering the compositions readily implanted beneath a patient's body surface by injection.

A fluid delivery device, comprising an electrochemical pump, wherein the pump is capable of transporting water; a pump product chamber, wherein the pump product chamber is capable of retaining water generated from the pump; a displaceable member positioned between the pump product chamber and a reservoir, wherein the displaceable member is controllably displaced upon generation of water from the electrochemical pump; a reservoir, wherein the reservoir is capable of containing a fluid which is delivered upon displacement of the displaceable member; and an housing for containing the pump, the pump product chamber, the displaceable member, and the reservoir.

Fluid delivery device having an electrochemical pump with an anionic exchange membrane and associated method

The present invention is directed to an apparatus and method for controllably adjusting a fluid delivery device. The device includes an electrochemical pump capable of transporting a fluid. A displaceable member is positioned between a pump product chamber and a reservoir, wherein the pump product chamber is capable of retaining water generated from the pump. The displaceable member is controllably displaced upon generation of water from the electrochemical pump and the reservoir contains the fluid that is delivered upon displacement of the displaceable member.

Fluid delivery device having an electrochemical pump with an ion-exchange membrane and associated method

The present invention is disclosed herein as an electrochemical cell having a cell housing with a first half cell and a second half cell, and an ion selective membrane between the cells. The electrochemical cell further has a first electrode positioned within the first half cell, a second electrode positioned within the second half cell, an electrolyte in electrical communication with both the first electrode and the second electrode. The electrodes of the cell are configured so that the electrochemical cell maintains a substantially constant salt concentration level throughout operation. The cell is preferably used in conjunction with an implantable fluid delivery apparatus. A method for using the device is additionally disclosed.

Dual electrode advanced electrochemical delivery system

An electro-osmotic cell capable of substantially reducing zero-current transport is disclosed, wherein the cell includes a cell housing having a first half cell and a second half cell, with an ion selective membrane therebetween, a first electrode positioned within the first half cell, a second electrode positioned within the second half cell, an electrolyte in electrical communication with the first electrode and the second electrode, and a wiring apparatus electrically connecting the first electrode and the second electrode, wherein the wiring apparatus has one or more structures used for counteracting salt concentration increases within the electro-osmotic cell. Such a cell may be used within an electro-osmotic fluid delivery device, along with a fluid inlet, a piston member adjacent the electro osmotic cell, and a drug reservoir adjacent the piston member, wherein the drug reservoir includes a sealed compartment having an exit port. A method for using such a device is similarly disclosed.
