Embodiments described herein include an expressive icon system to present an animated graphical icon, wherein the animated graphical icon is generated by capture facial tracking data at a client device. In some embodiments, the system may track and capture facial tracking data of a user via a camera associated with a client device (e.g., a front facing camera, or a paired camera), and process the facial tracking data to animate a graphical icon.

A messaging system, which hosts a backend service for a messaging client, includes a screen recording system configured to improve usability of a screen recording process while preserving users' privacy in the messaging system. Privacy is preserved by removing the foreground focus from the messaging client when screen recording is in progress. Screen recording is automatically paused when the screen recording system detects a request to restore the foreground focus to the messaging client.

In some examples, a method to present an affordance user interface element within a user interface of an interaction application includes detecting an association of a supplemental media content item with a primary media content item presented within the user interface. The supplemental media content item is identified from among a plurality of supplemental media content items supported by the interaction application. The method may include retrieving metadata related to the supplemental media content item and presenting, within the user interface, a supplementation affordance that presents the metadata. In some examples, the supplementation affordance is user selectable via the user interface to invoke a supplementation function that enables a user to apply the supplemental media content item to a further primary media content item. The supplementation function is invoked responsive to detecting a user selection of the supplementation affordance within the user interface.

Aspects of the present disclosure involve a system comprising a computer-readable storage medium storing a program and method for providing a reply interface with selectable stickers for sending in a message. The program and method provide for receiving, by a first device of a first user, a media content item provided by a second device of a second user; determining, in response to receiving the media content item, a set of stickers for displaying with the media content item; and displaying, by the first device, the media content item together with a first reply interface and a second reply interface for sending a reply message to the second device. The first reply interface includes the set of stickers, each of which is selectable by the first user for sending to the second device. Methods and systems are disclosed that access relationship data of a first user of an interaction system to identify a second user of the interaction system associated with the first user, cause presentation of identification information for the second user within an interaction interface and, responsive to identifying an event pertaining to the second user, cause presentation of a call-to-action graphical element associated with identification information of the second user within the interaction interface. Responsive to detecting user selection of the call-to-action graphical element, the methods and systems invoke an interaction function to facilitate an interaction between the first user and the second user. An avatar notification system is disclosed, which performs operations that include: causing display of a notification at a client device associated with a first user account, the notification including an identification of a second user account; receiving an input that selects the notification from the client device; presenting a composition interface at the client device in response to the input that selects the notification, the composition interface including a display of a media element that comprises a first identifier associated with the first user account and a second identifier associated with the second user account; receiving a selection of the media element from the client device; and generating a message that includes the media element in response to the selection.

A sender holds a first platform account with an interaction system. The sender selects a content item to be shared with a recipient. In response to determining that a recipient identifier of the recipient is not linked to a platform account, an off-platform communication is transmitted to a second user device associated with the recipient identifier. The off-platform communication is in an electronic format supported by the second user device and contains a user-selectable registration link. In response to detecting establishment of a second platform account linked to the recipient identifier, the recipient is enabled to access the content item on the second user device via a user interface provided by an interaction application. A system to dynamically generate and cause display of composite user identifiers is described. Embodiments of the present disclosure related to systems for: receiving an identification of a user profile from a client device; retrieving user identifiers associated with the user profile and a user profile associated with the client device; selecting an animation script from among a plurality of animation scripts, the animation script including a set of graphical elements; generating a composite user identifier based on the user identifiers associated with the user profile and the user profile associated with the client device; and causing display of a presentation of the composite user identifier at the client device, wherein the presentation is based on the animation script.

The technical problem of creating an augmented reality (AR) experience that, on one hand, is accessible from a camera view user interface provided with a messaging client and that, also, can perform a modification based on a previously captured image of a user, is addressed by providing an AR component. When a user, while accessing the messaging client, engages a user selectable element representing the AR component in the camera view user interface, the messaging system loads the AR component in the messaging client. The AR component comprises a target media content object, which can be animation or live action video. The loaded AR component accesses a portrait image associated with a user and modifies the target media content using the portrait image. The resulting target media content object is displayed in the camera view user interface.

Method of generating private notifications between users in a communication session starts with an application server causing a communication interface to be displayed at a first client device and at a second client device, respectively. Application server receives from the first client device a request to send a private notification to the second client device and causes a private notification sending interface to be displayed in the communication interface of the first client device. Application server receives from the first client device a confirmation to send the private notification to the second client device and generating the private notification at the second client device that includes causing a first avatar that is associated with a user of the first client device to be included in the communication interface displayed at the second client device. Method of generating selectable items providing post-viewing context actions starts with a processor receiving a media content item with first media overlay from first client device. Processor causes an active notification associated with the media content item to be displayed on a notification user interface by a second client device. Processor receives a selection of the active notification from the second client device and in response to receiving the selection of the active notification, causes the media content item to be displayed by the second client device. The processor, in response to the media content item being displayed by the second client device, causes the second client device to display the notification user interface comprising an inactive notification and a first selectable item that is associated with the first media overlay.
