An orthopaedic joint replacement system is shown and described. The system includes a number of prosthetic components configured to be implanted into a patient's knee. The system also includes a number of surgical instruments configured for use in preparing the bones of the patient's knee to receive the implants. A number of methods for using the surgical instruments to prepare the bones is also disclosed.

A surgical instrument system comprising a prosthetic trial component and an orthopaedic surgical instrument is disclosed. The orthopaedic surgical instrument includes a distal tip sized to be received in a passageway of the prosthetic trial component. When the distal tip is positioned in the passageway of the prosthetic trial component and is in an expanded position, the distal tip is configured to engage an inner surface of the prosthetic trial component to secure the prosthetic trial component to the orthopaedic surgical instrument and permit the extraction of the trial component from a patient's bone. A method of use is also disclosed.

An orthopaedic surgical instrument including a shaft including a head sized to be received in the socket of a medical device is disclosed. The orthopaedic surgical instrument includes a retaining flange that is rotatable relative to the head about an axis between a first position in which a tip of the retaining flange is aligned with the head and a second position in which the tip of the retaining flange is received in one of a number of apertures of the medical device when the head of the shaft is received in the socket of the medical device.
