Disclosed herein is a folding device to manufacture a stacked/folded type electrode assembly having unit cells sequentially stacked in a state in which a separation film is disposed between the respective unit cells, the folding device including a web supply unit to supply a web having plate-shaped unit cells arranged at a top of a separation film at predetermined intervals, a winding jig to rotate the unit cells while holding a first one of the unit cells of the web so that the unit cells are sequentially stacked in a state in which the separation film is disposed between the respective unit cells, and a rotary shaft compensation unit to compensate for the position of a rotary shaft of the winding jig in an advancing direction of the web (X-axis direction).

Device for folding electrode assembly

Disclosed herein is a secondary battery constructed in a structure in which pluralities of electrode tabs, protruding from an electrode assembly, are connected to corresponding electrode leads, and the electrode assembly is mounted in a receiving part, wherein a battery case is multi-formed, such that the battery case presses the upper end of the electrode assembly by a predetermined width, thereby preventing the upward movement of the electrode assembly, mounted in the receiving part, at the upper end space region of the receiving part, where the electrode assembly is spaced apart from the upper end of the receiving part, for the connection between the electrode tabs and the corresponding electrode leads, during the repetitive charge and discharge of the battery. Consequently, it is possible to prevent the occurrence of a short circuit of the battery due to external impacts, such as the dropping of the battery, and to prevent the occurrence of an internal short circuit of the battery due to the expansion of the battery case caused by the repetitive charge and discharge of the battery, whereby the safety of the secondary battery is improved.

Disclosed herein is a secondary battery having an electrode assembly received in a receiving part of a battery case, the electrode assembly being constructed in a structure in which pluralities of cathodes and anodes are stacked one on another while separators are disposed between the respective cathodes and anodes, and electrode taps extending from the stacked cathodes and anodes are coupled to electrode leads, wherein the receiving part of the battery case is provided at the outer upper end thereof with a depressed step such that at least a portion of the inner upper end of the receiving part of the battery case excluding the electrode taps-electrode lead coupling parts of the electrode assembly is in tight contact with the upper end of the electrode assembly.

Secondary battery of improved safety

Disclosed herein is a sheet-shaped safety kit that is attached to opposite major surfaces of an electrode assembly for secondary batteries. The safety kit includes a group of metal sheets electrically connected to a cathode terminal of the electrode assembly, another group of metal sheets electrically connected to a cathode terminal of the electrode assembly, and an insulation sheet disposed between the two metal sheet groups. The metal sheets of one of the metal sheet groups are interconnected with each other at lower ends of the metal sheets, the lower-end interconnection part interconnecting the lower ends of the metal sheets has a width less than that of the metal sheets, and lower-end corners of the interconnected metal sheets are larger than lower-end corners of the metal sheets that are not interconnected with each other.
