Disclosed is a method, performed by a client, of scheduling reception of media contents, the method including determining a plurality of network connections enabling the reception of the media contents between the client and a server, predicting a buffering timing at which segments of the media contents received in a unit of a buffer size of the client are received through some of the determined plurality of network connections, generating scheduling information for allocating the segments of the media contents to be allocated to the some network connections to each of the plurality of network connections at the predicted buffering timing, and transmitting the generated scheduling information to the server.

Method, device, and system for scheduling transmission and reception of media contents

A method and an apparatus acting as a server for estimating parameters of data transfer across a communication network are provided. The server includes a transceiver which enables data transfer operations and an estimator which estimates throughput as one of the parameters of the data transfer operations. The estimator further determines an indicator value of the throughput corresponding to an estimated bottleneck bandwidth (eBnBW) calculated from data traffic measurements. The indicator value is attributable to and indicates optimal parameters of the data transfer operations, calculated from measurements associated with the data traffic. The server apparatus includes a processor, in communication with the transceiver and the estimator, and the processor is configured to control for preparing succeeding data transfer operations to a client apparatus through the communication network based on the estimated bottleneck bandwidth determined by the estimator.

A data communication apparatus based on digital image processing includes a display that displays a color block array including color blocks corresponding to transmission data. The data communication apparatus also includes a camera that captures an image of a color block array displayed on a display of a transmitting side, and a storage that stores a code table including information about colors mapped to data values. The data communication apparatus further includes a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) that creates a color block array by converting transmission data to color blocks according to the code table during data transmission, identifies the color block array in the image captured by the camera, detects colors of color blocks in the color block array, and extracts data values corresponding to the detected colors during data reception.

A method and apparatus for arranging communication links in visible light communication increases the user visibility of the system. The method includes the steps of: (a) synchronizing, by a visible light communication (VLC) exchange identification (XID) frame, (b) transmission timing of a primary device and a secondary device in an allocated time slot, and securing time so as to allow the primary device and the secondary device to perform an operation required for transmitting data; (c) transmitting an XID command frame from the primary to the secondary device and (d) transmitting an XID response frame from the secondary receiving the XID command frame to the primary; and (e) filling remaining space of the allocated time slot with a visibility field so as to increase visibility of the remaining space of the allocated time slot after receiving the XID command frame or the XID response frame.

Apparatus and method for arranging communication links in visible light communication

A method and apparatus for performing a navigation service in a mobile terminal is provided. Map information and an IDentification (ID) of an information spot, which is connected to a map server, are received from the information spot. A current position is determined. The map information and the current position are displayed A destination input by a user is received. An optimal path from the current position to the destination is calculated and displayed by using the map information. When the mobile terminal receives an ID of a general spot from the general spot, a current position of the mobile terminal is re-determined. When the re-determined current position is on the optimal path, the optimal path is updated and the updated optimal path from the re-determined current position to the destination is displayed.

Disclosed are an optical signal concentrator and an optical receiver for wireless optical communication. The concentrator includes a diffusion sheet and a light guide plate positioned below the diffusion sheet for guiding diffused optical signals perpendicularly to the incident direction the diffused optical signals, the light guide plate being formed with at least one concentric circle pattern facing the diffusion sheet. The receiver includes an optical signal concentrator including a diffusion sheet, a light guide plate positioned below the diffusion sheet for guiding the optical signals perpendicularly to the incident direction the diffused optical signals, one or more optical detectors for detecting light projected to the side of the light guide plate, and a reflection plate for reflecting light incident to the light guide plate.

A system and method for continuing a communication link while maintaining visibility in visible light communication. A frame is transmitted by a sender for establishing a communication link before data transmission to a receiver by a sender. A receiver sends a response frame that reports on establishment of the communication link prior to data transmission by the sender. A data frame containing information is transmitted by the sender to the receiver. An acknowledgment frame is transmitted to the sender in response to the data frame. A disconnect frame is transmitted by the sender which is acknowledged by the receiver. A visible sequence is transmitted during a time period when the sender and the receiver do not transmit respective frames for communication to maintain visibility between two devices that may be communicating otherwise by, for example, infrared communication.

A method and apparatus for error concealment in decoding of a moving picture. The method includes the steps of determining an erroneous macro block in a present frame when the moving picture is decoded, finding a first macro block having a highest similarity to the erroneous macro block and a second macro block having a next highest similarity to the erroneous block in a previous frame by comparing adjacent pixels of respective blocks in the previous frame with adjacent pixels of the erroneous block in the present frame; and replacing the erroneous block by using an average between the found macro blocks having the highest similarity and the second highest similarity to thereby conceal the erroneous macro block. The apparatus includes a parser, an entropy decoder, an inverse quantizer, an inverse converter, and a concealment unit that uses motion compensation from a previous frame to correct a macro block in a current frame.

Method for error concealment in decoding of moving picture and decoding apparatus using the same

A system and method for performing a handover of a mobile station (MS) by considering Quality of Service (QoS) in a broadband mobile communication system. The method can include the steps of: receiving information about one or more neighbor base stations and reception strengths for the neighbor base stations from a Serving Radio Access System (RAS) currently communicating with the MS; extracting a value of a specific field from the received information about the neighbor base stations; combining the extracted value of the specific field with the reception strengths to thereby obtain combined values, and selecting a maximum value among the combined values; and transmitting a handover (handoff) request message to a base station corresponding to the selected maximum value. The system includes an MS that analyzes information about neighbor stations received in a Mobile Neighbor Base-station Advertisement (MOB_NBR_ADV) message to select a target RAS.

Provided is a method of measuring the position of a portable terminal, comprising detecting indoor illuminating light, and outputting an electric signal corresponding to the detected indoor illuminating light, obtaining a plurality of data frames from the output electrical signal, and calculating a position of the portable terminal based on information regarding the position of a corresponding reference light source included in each data frame and an identifier corresponding to the reference light source included in said each frame and a reception time of said each data frame.
