A recording/reproducing apparatus and a tracking control method which can perform data processing for reliably recording or reproducing data on or from a recording medium are disclosed. Tracking error signal (TE) is generated using difference signal (A&#x2212;B) produced from reflected light from a recording medium and an offset included in the difference signal is compensated for using another reflected light received separately from the reflected light. Offset-compensated tracking error signal ((A&#x2212;B)&#x2212;k(C&#x2212;D)) is obtained by subtracting another difference signal (C&#x2212;D) produced from the separately received reflected light according to gain (k) from difference signal (A&#x2212;B). Different gains may be used for areas on the recording medium having different reflectances. Thus, the tracking error signal can be compensated for an optical offset caused by lens movement and an offset caused by different reflectances and light radiated to the recording medium can accurately follow its track to perform reliable data processing.

Recording/reproducing apparatus and tracking control method

An optical pickup unit, an apparatus for recording/reproducing data, a control method, and a recording medium are disclosed. Each of the optical pickup unit and the recording/reproducing apparatus includes a near-field lens, and uses a high-refraction lens, conically shaped, to effectively use the near-field. Two lens units are required to be compatible with a conventional recording medium. The lens unit is designed in consideration of a distance between the recording medium and the lens, and the tilt or vibration of the lens units is controlled.

There is provided an apparatus for recording/reproducing data on/from a recording medium including: a pickup unit including an objective lens and a solid immersion lens(SIL) to allow a light to be incident onto a recording medium; a photoelectric element for receiving the light reflected from the recording medium to output a controlling signal; and a controller to control the pickup unit using the controlling signal outputted from the photoelectric element, wherein the controlling signal includes a tilting error signal by skew of the recording medium.

Apparatus and method for recording/reproducing data on/from a recording medium

Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for controlling a tracking servo in a near field optics. Gap error signals are detected in a divided state, and a push pull signal is compensated based on the detected gap error signals. A photo detector detecting the gap error signals is divided into two areas such that movement of an image formed on the photo detector can be detected. The push pull signal is compensated by subtracting a value proportional to a difference value between the two gap error signals detected in the photo detector. The difference value between the two gap error signals is proportional to a dc offset component included in the push pull signal. Accordingly, it is possible to simply remove a dc offset included in a push pull signal without largely modifying the near field optics, so that it is possible to exactly perform a tracking servo operation.
