A method is disclosed for estimating the surface condition of a blade rotating about a rotational axis in an air or fluid stream. The method involves measuring blade deformations indicative of blade loads acting on the blade to identify actual blade loads (P,R,T), measuring blade-state information (&#x3a8;,&#x3a9;,,V) indicative of a blade operational state to identify a given blade operational state (&#x3b1;,Q), providing a clean-surface aerodynamic map () relating blade loads to an ensemble of blade operational states when the blade surface is in a clean state, providing a dirty-surface aerodynamic map () relating blade loads to an ensemble of blade operational states when the blade surface is in a dirty state, estimating the surface condition of the blade by comparing the distance of the actual blade loads (P,R,T) to the blade loads given by the clean-surface aerodynamic map () at the given operational state (&#x3b1;,Q), and the distance of the actual blade loads (P,R,T) to the blade loads given by the dirty-surface aerodynamic map () at the given operational state (&#x3b1;,Q).

Method and system for estimating the surface condition of a rotating blade

A pitch system for a wind turbine installation having an electrically driven pitch drive associated with each rotor blade and an electric motor arranged in a rotating part of the wind turbine installation for blade adjustments. A power and control unit is associated with the motor and has line connections for the transmission of power and control data from the power and control unit to the motor and vice versa. The line connections are passed via a first rotating bushing arranged at a connecting point between the rotating part and an axially adjacent stationary region. The pitch system also includes second rotating bushing which operates mechanically and electrically separately from the first rotating bushing and is connectable to the power and control unit and to the motor for maintaining reliable transmission of the power and control data if the first rotating bushing fails.

Redundant pitch system

The present invention relates to a wind-velocity-field measurement system for use in a wind turbine having a rotor with' two or more blades, comprising at least one sensor-signal obtained by measuring a physical quantity on at angle least one of the blades, the physical quantity being indicative of at least one wind-velocity-field characteristic; a table () build for a plurality of wind conditions by associating values characterizing the at least one sensor-signal with values of the at least one wind-velocity-field characteristic, and; searching means () for determining from the table a value of the at least one wind-velocity-field characteristic for a current wind condition given values characterizing the at least one sensor-signal.

Wind sensor system using blade signals

The invention relates to a control device for a wind power plant having an electrical system and a rotor including a plurality of rotor blades driven by wind, and outputting a mechanical rotor power to the electrical system. The system converts the mechanical rotor power at least partially into electrical power. The control device includes a blade sensor associated with at least one of the rotor blades and measuring at least one physical property of the rotor blade dependent on at least one characteristic value of a wind field describing the wind at the location of the rotor. The blade sensor generates a blade sensor signal characterizing the physical property. The control device also includes an estimation unit to determine an estimated value for the electrical power as a function of the blade sensor signal.
