A method for improving the data rate of data for M/H receivers and for improving the quality of channel estimation in an ATSC-M/H transport data stream marks the transport data packets determined for the transmission of data for M/H receivers in N (e.g., 38) consecutively transmitted transport data packets in an ATSC-M/H-slot of the uncoded ATSC-M/H transport data stream originally determined for the transmission of data for stationary receivers. Coded data for M/H receivers are inserted in the marked transport data packets and introduce training sequences in segments of data fields of the coded ATSC-M/H transport data stream containing marked transport data packets.

Method for improving the data rate of mobile/handheld data and the quality of channel estimation in an ATSC-M/H transport data stream

Mapping data packets of a first data stream into data fields of a second data stream at several transmitters is provided by generating a first data stream with first data packets containing data associated with stationary receivers and second data packets containing data associated with mobile receivers in a head-end, where second data packets at the start of a group of consecutively transmitted second data packets contain placeholders into which signaling information is filled. A first data stream is transmitted from the head-end to each transmitter. Each transmitter extracts signaling information from the second data packets indicating in which data slot and in which data sub-frame of a received data frame the second data packet is transferred. Each transmitter inserts synchronization data in a specific data packet in each data slot containing second data packets. The first and second data packets are mapped consecutively into the second data stream.

Method and system for synchronized mapping of data packets in an ATSC data stream

A transport data stream is generated by generating a data stream of successive second data frames with a GOP structure for each program containing image data of an image of an image sequence recorded digitally and belonging to the respective program by a source encoder. The transmission start, transmission period and transmission time are determined. At the start of first data frames, second data frames realized as P-frames or B-frames to be transmitted are replaced by second data frames realized as I-frames in each of the data streams belonging to a program and each first data frame of the transport data stream is packed with second data frames of data streams belonging in each case to one program whose transmission time fits the transmission start and the transmission period of the respective first data frame by means of a multiplexer.

Methods and apparatus for generating a transport data stream with image data

Methods and devices are disclosed for generating a reorganized transport datastream from transport data packets of an original transport datastream displaces the first transport data packets contained in an original transport datastream into determined new positions within the reorganized transport datastream. The new positions are determined dependent upon a first data rate at which the first transport data packets of the reorganized transport datastream are stored in second buffers and a second data rate at which the first transport data packets of the reorganized transport datastream are read out from the second buffers.

Methods and devices for generating a reorganized transport datastream

A method and a device for transmitting a transport stream according to a digital television-transmission standard for stationary and/or mobile receivers with program and service data for a national and a regional broadcast determines the transmission capacity in the transport stream provided in each case for the national and the regional broadcast through a first multiplexer within a centrally positioned headend. The first multiplexer then fills the transport stream with program and service data for national broadcast within the transmission capacity of the transport stream provided for the broadcast and marks the transmission capacity provided within the transport stream for the regional broadcast. Second multiplexers provided in the regional headends and/or in the regional transmitters in each case fill the marked transmission capacity of the transport stream, transmitted in each case from the central headend to several regionally positioned headends and/or regionally positioned transmitters, with program and service data for regional broadcast.

Method and a device for the efficient transmission of program and service data for national and regional broadcast

A method and a device for continuous adaptation of coding parameters to a variable user-data rate of a datastream composed of data frames. Data packets and ensembles are received and associated with services for mobile receivers. The transmission requirement of the next ensemble is determined based on the buffered data packets. Optimized coding parameters for the ensemble in the next data frame are then determined based on certain factors, such as the transmission requirement for the un-coded ensemble and the determined transmission capacity.
