A safety device () with a safety switch () and at least one actuator (), wherein when an actuator () is arranged within a response range relative to the safety switch (), signals are transmitted from the actuator () to the safety switch (), by which means a function of the safety switch () is released. The actuator () is additionally designed for configuring the safety switch in that a configuration signal is transmissible from the actuator () to the safety switch ().

The safety switch () is designed for integration into a series connection () of safety switches (); the safety switch () has devices for detecting and adjusting the operating mode in the series connection (). The safety switch () is designed for replacement in the series connection () during its operation.

The invention relates to a module arrangement () with a base module and at least one submodule (); the base module has at least two connection modules. The submodule () can be put into contact via a connection module with a choice of one of the connection modules of the base module and can consequently be attached to the base module in different orientations. Detection devices for detecting the orientation of the submodule () attached to the base module are provided in the base module.
