The invention relates to a method and device for identifying a subject in a sensor based monitoring system. This method comprises an acquisition step wherein sensors of a sensor array acquire subject related sensor signals, a pattern extraction step wherein a signal pattern is derived from the sensor signals acquired in the preceding acquisition step, and an identification step wherein the signal pattern derived in the preceding pattern extraction step is compared to predetermined signal patterns, each predetermined signal pattern being related to a subject profile, to identify a subject profile whose predetermined signal pattern related thereto matches the derived signal pattern.

Method and device for identifying a subject in a sensor based monitoring system

A method for monitoring the blood pressure of a patient, comprising the following steps: determining a pulse arrival time signal from the patientbased on the pulse wave velocity method; determining an accelerometer signal from the patient; and triggering an additional measure or deriving a blood pressure value, taking into account the pulse arrival time signal and a DC component of the accelerometer signal. In this way, a possibility for monitoring the blood pressure of a patient is provided with which false alarms and/or unnecessary additional cuff-based blood pressure measurements can be avoided.

There is provided a method of determining a measure of the cardiac output, CO, of a patient, the method comprising obtaining measurements of one or more physiological characteristics of the patient, the physiological characteristics including at least the heart rate, HR, of the patient, the systolic blood pressure, S, of the patient and the diastolic blood pressure, D, of the patient; and processing the measurements to determine a measure of the cardiac output of the patient; wherein the measure of the cardiac output of the patient is derived using the relationship where Kand Kare patient-specific calibration factors, PAT is the pulse arrival time, PEP is the pre-ejection period and PTT is the pulse transit time, the time taken for a pulse wave to travel between two points in the body of the patient.

Method and apparatus for monitoring cardiac output of a patient in a home environment

A device detects electrical and mechanical cardio-vascular activities of patient, especially early decompensation detection of congestive heart failure patients (CHF). The device includes a transmitter for transmitting electromagnetic signals of a predefined frequency into the chest of the patient, a Doppler radar sensor () for detecting a Doppler radar signal reflected in the patient's chest, and an ECG unit () for capturing an ECG signal of the patient's heart. This device allows for simultaneous detection of electrical and mechanical cardio-vascular activities of a patient which can be used in an easy and reliable way and which allows for implementation in a hand-held or wearable device.
