A system and method to receive a request for a patient-specific surgical plan, create the requested plan, and provide it to a surgeon is disclosed. A Planning server may receive information regarding a patient, such as one or more files or objects, and an order from a surgeon for a surgical plan. A Plan Development client may include a surgical planning module that accesses the one or more files or objects, and creates a computer-generated, three-dimensional model of the patient anatomy. The planning module of the Plan Development client also may create an electronic surgical plan, and may transmit the plan to the Planning server. The ordering surgeon may be notified of the availability of the plan, and may access the plan stored at the Planning server through a surgeon client. The ordering surgeon may utilize the remotely generated surgical plan during the surgical procedure on the patient.

Surgical planning system and method

In a method for the acquisition of optical coherence tomography image data of retina tissue of an eye () of a human subject using an acquisition device comprising an imaging optics (), a first image associated with a baseline relative positioning of the eye () of the human subject with respect to the imaging optics () is acquired at a first point in time. The baseline relative positioning is stored. At a second point in time being different from the first point in time, the baseline relative positioning of the same eye () of the same human subject with respect to the imaging optics () is re-established and a second image is acquired. For re-establishing the positioning, a present relative positioning of the eye () of the human subject with respect to the imaging optics is determined based on a video image of an iris region of the eye. A corresponding device comprises an imaging optics (), a head support to be contacted by a head portion of the human subject, the head support defining an entrance position of the sample beam entering an eye of the human subject, a camera () for acquiring a video image of an iris region of the eye, a display () for displaying a target image to the human subject, the target image indicating a direction of a line of vision to be assumed by the human subject, and a processor for determining a present relative positioning of the eye of the human subject with respect to the imaging optics, based on the video image, for comparing a present relative positioning of the eye () of the human subject with respect to the imaging optics () to a stored baseline relative positioning, for affecting the target image as long as the present relative positioning does not correspond to the stored baseline relative positioning, and for triggering the acquisition of image data when the present relative positioning corresponds to the baseline relative positioning.

Method for the acquisition of optical coherence tomography image data of retina tissue of an eye of a human subject

In the context of a method for the analysis of image data representing a three-dimensional volume of biological tissue, the image data comprises a first image representing the volume at a first point in time and a second image representing the volume at a second point in time being different from the first point in time. The method comprises the steps of: a) identifying a first subvolume of the volume represented by the first image having a major extension in a predefined direction and a second subvolume of the volume represented by the second image having a major extension in the predefined direction, whereas the first subvolume and the second subvolume represent a same region of the three-dimensional volume; b) creating a distance matrix from image data of a succession of voxels of the first subvolume in the predefined direction and image data of a succession of voxels of the second subvolume in the predefined direction; and c) analyzing the distance matrix to obtain at least one local measure for a probability of growth of a layer of the biological tissue represented by the first and the second subvolume, along the predefined direction.

Method for the analysis of image data representing a three-dimensional volume of biological tissue

In the context of a method for the analysis of image data representing a three-dimensional volume () of biological tissue, for each of a number of subvolumes at least two error probability values () are generated, each of the values () indicating a probability of a type of imaging error, the totality of subvolumes constituting the three-dimensional volume (). A single consolidated error probability value () is determined for each of the number of subvolumes, based on the at least two error probability values (). Subsequently, the image data is analyzed to obtain a physiologically relevant conclusion applying to a plurality of subvolumes, weighting in the analysis the image data of a given subvolume of the plurality of subvolumes according to the consolidated error probability () of the subvolume.

An optical coherence tomography imaging device () for imaging a retina of a human subject comprises a base () having a planar contact surface (), an optical unit () providing a sample beam to scan the retina of the human subject and a head support () to be contacted by a head portion of the human subject, the head support () defining an entrance position of the sample beam entering an eye of the human subject. An angle between the sample beam at the entrance position and the planar contact surface () of the base () is 50 to 90&#xb0;. This arrangement ensures that the head rests in a stable and well defined position with respect to the OCT optics. The risk of negative effects on the imaging process due to head movements, in particular due to movements during the scan time of the OCT device is considerably reduced. Furthermore, the device may assume a compact form factor.

Optical coherence tomography imaging device for imaging a retina of a human subject

The invention relates to a device for examining an eye, particularly a human eye, comprising: an optical unit that is designed to generate a current image of a current intermediate image, wherein the optical unit comprises an objective, an additional lens that is designed to be arranged in front of an eye along an optical axis of the optical unit in order to generate said current intermediate image of a posterior structure of said eye, and wherein said additional lens is designed to be movable relative to said optical unit so as to generate a sharp and particularly reflection-free current image of said posterior structure with help of said optical unit. According to the invention, the device comprises a first actuator means that is designed to move the additional lens and which is controlled depending on the current image. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for examining an eye.
