An emulsion composition includes an acrylic polymer, a metal silicate, and water. Advantageously, the emulsion composition provides coatings with superior adhesion of coatings to a concrete, clay, or ceramic substrate. In particular, the emulsion composition provides improved adhesion of the silicate primer to the concrete, clay, or ceramic substrate and strong cohesion between the primer and top coat paint allow for a much better overall performance. A method for applying the emulsion composition is also provided.

A multicolor paint composition includes a continuous phase having a first rheology modifier and an optional second rheology modifier, a first discontinuous phase dispersed in the continuous phase, and a second discontinuous phase immiscibly dispersed in the continuous phase. The first discontinuous phase includes a first colorant having a first colorant strength, and an emulsion of a non-thixotropic polymer. The second discontinuous phase includes a second colorant having a second colorant strength, a third rheology modifier, and an emulsion of a first thixotropic polymer.

A self-healing paint composition includes water, a self-healing polymer having a first functional group and a second functional group bonded thereto that interact with each other by dynamic covalent or dynamic non-covalent interactions, and one or more optional pigment compositions. At least one of the first functional group and the second functional group are present in an amount of 0.1 to 10 mole percent the emulsion self-healing polymer having a weight average molecular weight of about 15,000 g/mol to 1,000,000 g/mol.
