In accordance with a first aspect of the present disclosure, a communication device is provided, comprising: a transmitter configured to transmit one or more radio frequency signal pulses; a detection unit configured to detect one or more load changes at a radio frequency interface occurring in response to the radio frequency signal pulses transmitted by the transmitter, wherein said load changes are indicative of the presence of an external communication device; a first clock generator comprising a free-running oscillator, wherein said first clock generator is configured to provide a clock signal to the transmitter and the detection unit while said transmitter transmits said radio frequency signal pulses and the detection unit detects said load changes. In accordance with a second aspect of the present disclosure, a corresponding method of operating a communication device is conceived.

Communication device and operating method

A power line communication system () comprising a first node () and a second node (). The first node () comprises a second-node-connection-terminal (); a first-node-transmission-module () that provides a first-node-output-signal () to the second-node-connection-terminal (); and modulates the voltage level of the first-node-output-signal based on first-node-transmission-data. The second node () comprises a second-node-input-voltage-terminal () that is connected to the second-node-connection-terminal () of the first node () in order to receive the first-node-output-voltage-signal (). The second node () is configured to use the first-node-output-voltage-signal () as a supply voltage. The second node () also includes a second-node-transmission-module () that: provides a second-node-current-signal () to the second-node-input-voltage-terminal () for transmission to the second-node-connection-terminal () of the first node (); and modulates the current level of the second-node-current-signal () based on second-node-transmission-data. The second node () also includes a second-node-reception-module () that is configured to process the voltage level of the received first-node-output-signal () in order to demodulate the first-node-transmission-data. The first node () further comprises a first-node-reception-module () that processes the current level of the second-node-current-signal () received from the second node () at the second-node-connection-terminal () in order to demodulate the second-node-transmission-data.

Power line communication system

A system for simultaneously driving a plurality of antennas for transmission of an electromagnetic wave includes a first terminal, a second terminal, a first driver coupled to the first terminal, and a second driver coupled to the second terminal. The system includes a circuit configured to generate an indication of a phase difference between a first current through the first terminal and a second current through the second terminal. The system includes a control circuit configured to enable the first driver and the second driver to concurrently drive a first signal through the first terminal and a second signal through the second terminal, respectively, and configured to adjust a delay between the first signal and the second signal based on the indication of the phase difference and a predetermined target phase difference.

Superposition of electromagnetic fields by antenna current phase alignment

A low frequency (LF) antenna control circuit is disclosed. The LF antenna control circuit includes an antenna driver to drive an antenna, a current and phase measurement circuit to measure antenna current and signal phase, a modulator to modulate a signal to be transmitted via the antenna and a controller configured to drive the antenna through the antenna driver using a first fixed amplitude for a first time period, a second fixed amplitude for a second time period that is subsequent to the first time period and subsequent to the second time period, and subsequently, to drive the antenna using step up/down voltages based on the measured antenna current and signal phase. The signal included encoded bits of data to be transmitted.
