The invention concerns a method for making Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) and stacks. The method concerns assembling the layers required for the formation of a fuel cell, sintering the fuel cell and thereafter shaping the cell. When making a fuel cell stack, the sintered fuel cells are assembled with the interconnect, spacing and sealing material to form a stack of at least one stack element, followed by shaping the stack. Shaping is carried out in various ways and maximum tolerances of 1% are obtained.

Method of making solid oxide fuel cells and stacks

A supported superconductor device which is useful as a superconducting current lead or as a high voltage current regulator. The device is formed of a tubular support, with a layer of ceramic, glassy or glass ceramic material adhered to the inner wall of the tubular support, the layer of material embedding a superconducting layer centrally arranged within the material of the first layer, the material of the first layer having a minimum expansion coefficient and being reinforced with pore filling material.

Supported superconductor

A method of preparing a rare earth-barium-cuprate superconductor in the form of metallic tapes or wires, using a thick film or powder-in-tube process by supporting on a metallic substrate a mixture of seed crystals or aligned platelets of rare earth-barium cuprate having a high melting point and rare earth-barium-cuprate powder having a lower melting point. The material supported on the substrate is then subjected to a heat treatment at a temperature below the melting point of the high melting rare earth-barium-cuprate seed crystals and the metallic substrate and above the melting point of the low melting powder. Subsequently, the heat treated supported material is cooled below the melting temperature of the material and annealed.
