A stent retractor/distractor includes a radially flexibly enlargeable, pipe-shaped sheath which is divided up in the circumferential direction in at least two sections, namely one stiffening section and one enlarging section with differing radial flexibilities, which are connected with each other in one piece of material. The stent retractor/distractor defined in that way is made on the whole by a laser or water jet cutting procedure, preferably from a pipe blank.

A stent retractor has a radially flexibly expandable tubular sheath divided in the peripheral direction into at least two sections, specifically a reinforcing section and an expanding section, with radial flexibilities that differ from one another, these sections being interconnected integrally. The stent retractor includes axial segments that are connected by a puzzle-type connection allowing simple separation or length adjustment in the axial direction (including when in situ) while also being made integrally, for example by a laser or water jet cutting method, preferably from a tubular blank.

The invention relates to a medical instrumentation with a navigation system which comprises an optical detection unit comprising a camera, and a data processing unit coupled to the detection unit, with a medical article and with a marking device which is held directly or indirectly on the article and is positioned in a defined spatial arrangement in relation thereto, or which marking device is comprised by or formed by the article, the location and orientation of the marking device being determinable with the navigation system, it being possible for at least one image of the marking device and the article to be taken by means of the detection unit and for the position and shape of the article to be determined by the data processing unit on the basis of an image. The invention relates to a medical instrumentation with a navigation system which comprises an optical detection unit comprising a camera, and a data processing unit coupled to the detection unit, with a stabilization element of a surgical fixation system and with a medical marking device which is held in a defined spatial arrangement on or is comprised by or formed by the stabilization element, the location and orientation of the marking device in space being determinable with the navigation system, it being possible for at least two images of the stabilization element and the marking device to be taken from a different orientation by means of the detection unit and for the shape of the stabilization element to be determined by the data processing unit on the basis of the two or more images. A surgical retractor system includes a substantially tubular retractor having several segments which can be irreversibly severed from one another to carry out a length adaptation of the retractor. A segment is subdivided into an expanding section and a plate section of differing radial flexibility and connected to each other in a one-piece material bond to allow plastic radial expansion of the retractor. An extractor can be operated to bring about plastic radial constriction of the retractor contrary to the radial expansion of the retractor. The extractor is prepared to cooperate with the plate section to bring about radial constriction of the retractor. A surgical instrument for removing a distractor or retractor from an opening includes at least one handle section defining a handle's longitudinal axis and at least one operating section defining a longitudinal effective axis, which are coupled to each other by a connecting section.

The present invention relates to a connection element for a spine stabilization system which comprises a first end for fixing to a first bone fixation device, a second end for fixing to a second bone fixation device and an intermediate portion arranged or formed between the two ends and defining a longitudinal axis. At least one of the two ends takes the form of a coupling element for fixing the connection element to a bone fixation device in at least one defined orientation relative to the longitudinal axis. The coupling element has a shape other than a circular cylinder.

A pedicle screw system and/or a spinal stabilization system includes a pedicle screw having a screw shaft with an external thread and having a screw head supported on the screw shaft in a ball-and-socket joint relationship therewith. The screw head includes a connecting element receptacle for a connecting element of a spinal stabilization system. The pedicle screw system further includes a bone alignment device and a coupling device for at least one of force-locking coupling and form-locking coupling of the bone alignment device and the screw shaft when in an alignment position.

The instrumentation includes a sensor unit, a coupling unit for percutaneous selective coupling of the sensor unit to at least one anchoring element or to the stabilization element, and a data processing unit which determines from sensor signals of the sensor unit the position of the anchoring elements relative to one another and/or the position of at least one anchoring element relative to the stabilization element.

A system for anchoring a pedicle screw in a patient's vertebra uses a pedicle screw having a threaded portion sinkable in the vertebral arch.
