Drug delivery device with electronically controlled and axially displaceable piston drive member () adapted to engage a loaded cartridge piston. The piston drive member is moveable between a proximal loading position in which a cartridge can be received and a distal loaded position in engagement with the piston. A proximity sensor () provides a varying output indicative of a varying distance between the piston drive member and the piston. A controller () coupled to the proximity sensor is configured to control movement of the piston drive member from the loading position to the loaded position and stop movement when the controller based on input from the proximity sensor system determines that the loaded position has just been reached. By this arrangement it is prevented that a drug-filled cartridge is pressurized during the loading and initializing procedure.

The present invention relates to secure paring of electronically controlled devices configured to communicate with each other. A medical system is provided comprising a first unit and a second unit, the system comprising a first communication link allowing a first group of data types to be transmitted between the first unit and the second unit, and a second communication link allowing a second group of data types to be transmitted between the first unit and the second unit. Different properties of the communication links may be used to ensure that certain data, e.g. during pairing of the two devices, can be transmitted in a more controlled way whereas other data can be transmitted in a less controlled way.

Safety system for an electrically driven medical delivery device and a computer-readable medium

The invention relates to: A medication delivery device () for delivering a specific dose comprising a medication cartridge () having an outlet () and a piston (), and means () for holding said cartridge, and a piston rod () being operable to engage and displace said piston, and electrically driven actuating means (), and driving means () for transferring movement from said actuating means to said piston rod, and memory means () for storing data, and processing means () for evaluating said data and for controlling said actuating means. The object of the present invention is to provide a medication delivery system that combines a relatively high dose accuracy with the use of relatively low quality mechanical components and which enables compensation for built-in non-linearities. The problem is solved in that a first set of data () describing the actual movement () of said piston rod () relative to said medication cartridge () as a function of the movement () of said actuating means () is stored in said memory means (), and the movement () of the piston rod () governing the delivered dose is controlled by the processing means () on the basis of said first set of data (). This has the advantage of allowing compensation for mechanical inaccuracies and built-in non-linearities linearities. The invention may e.g. be used in injection or infusion devices for a person's self-treatment of a disease such as diabetes.

Medication delivery system with improved dose accuracy

A medication delivery device comprising a system that is able to sense if the delivery device is in actual physical contact with a human being or if the delivery device has been abandoned. The system comprises an electronic control and a touch sensitive switch preferably formed as a part of the housing of the medication delivery device. The housing can be divided into two parts each constituting separate electrical conductors being spaced apart from each other by an insulating material. When the two parts a temporarily bridged e.g. by the skin of a human being a direct current path between the parts are created, which can provide an electrical signal at the electronic control. When a dose has been set, absence of the signal will cause the electronic control to cancel the set dose and to sound an alarm.

Described is an electronic injection device wherein an electronic circuit is designed to work in two alternative modes: an air shot mode and a dose injection mode. When working in the air shot mode a small predetermined air shot dose is pressed out from the ampule when the injection button is actuated. When working in the injection mode, a dose set by operation of the dose setting means is injected by operation of the injection button. The electronic injection device is normally working in the air shot mode but shifts to work in the dose injection mode when it receives a signal indicating that the dose setting means has been operated. The circuit returns to its air shot mode when receiving a signal indicating that the set dose has been injected. This signal can originate either from a switch indicating that the protection cap is mounted or from a switch indicating that the injection button has been pressed.

A liquid medication delivery device for, and a method of, delivering medication from a cartridge having a moveable piston at one end is disclosed. The piston has a first wall face that contacts the liquid in the cartridge and a second wall for engaging a piston rod that drives the piston. The first and second walls are moveable but the second wall tends to move more quickly then the first during administration of a dose of medication from the cartridge. To compensate for this difference in movement between the first and second wall faces, the rod first moves a distance corresponding to the amount that the first wall face must move to deliver the desired dose and then it continues to move past this position by an amount known as an overshoot distance. It is then retracted by a distance equal to the overshoot distance.

Liquid medication delivery device and a method of delivering an intended dose

The invention relates to an apparatus for self-treatment of diabetes. The apparatus is particularly advantageous by comprising a plurality of devices each of which has its own dedicated function corresponding to a number of acts which a diabetic must perform on himself. The individual devices are mutually interconnectible, and the combination comprises at least a body fluid analyzer and a dosing apparatus for administering a predetermined dose of insulin to the patient. Each of the devices may be provided in several sizes so that the user himself may combine the relevant devices of the relevant size with respect to the current need. This reduces the risk of forgetting parts of the equipment, and the confidence of using the equipment is enhanced because it is evident to the user that it is a complete apparatus consisting of unified parts.

The invention concerns an apparatus for the registration of the setting of a medical device, the setting of which implies a mechanical adjustment of at least two relatively moveable elements of the device. The invention is characterized in that the apparatus is intended for disconnectible engagement with the medical device, and that it has detector means for detecting the mechanical adjustment and has information means arranged for providing information related to said mechanical adjustment.
