A method performed by a processing system including at least one processor includes grouping a plurality of nodes of a telecommunications network into a plurality of reference groups, based on a plurality of configuration attributes and on a plurality of load, mobility, radio frequency attributes for the plurality of nodes, selecting a first reference group of the plurality of reference groups, where the first reference group includes a subset of the plurality of nodes, selecting a first configuration parameter of the first reference group to be tuned, identifying a first value for the first configuration parameter that is most prevalent among the subset of the plurality of nodes, and setting the first configuration parameter for all nodes in the subset of the plurality of nodes to the first value.

Optimization of long term evolution/fifth generation service through conformity-based recommendations

A processing system may apply a data set comprising utilization metrics of a cells of a cell sector to a throughput prediction model to obtain a first predicted throughput for the cell sector for a designated future time period and for all cells being in an active state. The processing system may generate a first modified data set simulating a first cell being placed in an inactive state, by distributing utilization metrics of the first cell over at least one additional cell, and may apply the first modified data set to the throughput prediction model to obtain a second predicted throughput. The processing system may then determine that the second predicted throughput meets a threshold throughput that is based on the first predicted throughput, and transmit at least one instruction to place the first cell in the inactive state for the designated future time period in response to the determining.

Network capacity planning based on application performance can include detecting a data session occurring on a network, identifying an application being used for the data session, where the application can include a video application, determining if a performance model for the video application exists, the performance model describing performance metrics and quality of service events associated with the video application, determining, based on the performance model, a capacity planning trigger for the video application, where the capacity planning trigger can include increasing network capacity based on the needs and a quality of service associated with the video application during the data session, and generating a command that, when executed by a network entity, causes the network entity to implement the capacity planning trigger on the network.

A method includes measuring a first performance metric of a network comprising a plurality of virtual network functions (VNFs). The method also includes measuring a second performance metric of the network after at least one of the tasks has been completed and comparing the first performance metric to the second performance metric to determine a recommendation for whether to deploy the software change on the plurality of VNFs. The tasks are based upon a change management workflow created using a graphical model, the graphical model comprising modular building blocks selected from a change management catalog.

A system and method identify a network upgrade from a data set including a plurality of configuration sessions. The system performs the method by receiving a plurality of configuration sessions. Each of the configuration sessions comprises a plurality of configuration commands. The configuration commands are generated by a same user identifier and within a time threshold. The method further includes identifying one of the configuration sessions as a network upgrade session. The identification is based on a rareness of the configuration session or a skewness of the configuration session.

A method includes determining, at a processor of an automated attendant system, whether a customer service representative is available to speak with a caller. The method also includes scheduling a call back time in response to a determination that the customer service representative is not available to speak with the caller. The call back time indicates a time where the customer service representative will call the caller. The method further includes providing the call back time to the caller and receiving an availability flag from the caller at the call back time. The availability flag indicates whether the caller is available to receive a call from the customer service representative. The method also includes providing a call back signal to the customer service representative based on the availability flag. The call back signal indicates to the customer service representative whether to call the caller at the call back time.

Enhanced automated attendant system

A system and method identify a set of rules for determining a commonality of attributes across different behavior changes for a network. The system performs the method by receiving a set of data correlating network triggers to performance changes of one or more network devices. The set of data further includes an indication of a sign of the performance change for each of the network devices based on the triggers. The method further includes extracting a set of rules relating to a set of relationships between the triggers and the performance changes. The rules identify a commonality of the performance changes for multiple network devices based on the triggers.

Method and system for detecting common attributes of network upgrades

A method, computer-readable storage device and apparatus for quantifying a total number of customers impacted by a cellular tower outage are disclosed. For example, the method monitors a plurality of cellular towers, detects a failure of one of the plurality of cellular towers, identifies a subset of the plurality of cellular towers that are included in an affected region, calculates a number of additional customers served by each one of the subset of the plurality of cellular towers that are included in the affected region due to the failure of the one cellular tower, and quantifies the total number of customers impacted by the failure of the one cellular tower by adding the number of additional customers served by the each one of the subset of the plurality of cellular towers that are included in the affected region.

Method and apparatus for quantifying the customer impact of cell tower outages

Concepts and technologies disclosed herein are for monitoring operational activities in networks and detecting potential network intrusions and misuses. According to one aspect disclosed herein, an intrusion detection system can collect logs from an authentication, authorization, and accounting system. The intrusion detection system can extract information from the logs, update intrusion detection information utilized by an intrusion detection rule based upon the information extracted from the logs, update a profile utilized by the intrusion detection rule, compare the profile and the intrusion detection rule against a running state of an on-going session, tag corresponding log entries with a threat score, calculate the threat scores from the corresponding log entries to create an aggregated threat score, and present the aggregated threat score. The intrusion detection system can also present an alarm if the aggregated threat score triggers an alarm condition.

Monitoring operational activities in networks and detecting potential network intrusions and misuses

A technique for monitoring performance in a network uses passively monitored traffic data at the server access routers. The technique aggregates performance metrics into clusters according to a spatial hierarchy in the network, and then aggregates performance metrics within spatial clusters to form time series of temporal bins. Representative values from the temporal bins are then analyzed using an enhanced Holt-Winters exponential smoothing algorithm.

Passive and comprehensive hierarchical anomaly detection system and method

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, obtaining regression coefficients that quantify a relationship between premises feedback and first network and premises performance indicators, obtaining second network performance indicators for the network elements, obtaining second premises performance indicators for the customer premises equipment, and predicting customer complaints by applying the obtained regression coefficients to at least the second network performance indicators and the second premises performance indicators. Method and apparatus for managing quality of service

Method and apparatus for providing a control plane across multiple optical network domains is described. In one example, topology and resource discovery is employed in a transport network having a plurality of control domains. Topology information for each of the control domains is summarized to produce summarized topology information. The summarized topology information for each of the control domains is exchanged among the control domains. At each of the control domains, the summarized topology information of each of the control domains is combined to produce combined topology information. The combined topology information is passed among network elements within each of the control domains using an intra-domain routing protocol.

Method and apparatus for providing a control plane across multiple optical network domains

A system and method are provided for identifying a change point in a set of data. The system performs the method by receiving a set of data. The data indicates a plurality of performance measurements from a measurement point in a network. Each of the plurality of measurements represents a single type of performance measurement made at the measurement point at each of a corresponding plurality of points in time. The method also includes dividing the set of data into a plurality of data points in a chronological order. Each data point has a value corresponding to the performance measurements. The method also includes ranking the data points in an ascending order, calculating a cumulative sum for each of the data points, calculating a change score for the set of data points. A change point is identified in the data set if the change score exceeds a predetermined confidence level.
