A system and method provides investors with meaningful information extracted from large volumes of available data for a particular stock, mutual fund, bond, or other investment. The system includes one or more computers that receive and process multiple data feeds to extract information relating to each type of investment. The processed data is compared to 'alert rules' each corresponding to a predefined condition, and a truth table is established that identifies alerts that are true for each particular investment. An investor logs onto a web site and enters a stock ticker symbol or similar investment identifier. Computer software displays a web page including 'alerts' that are presently true for that particular investment. The alerts can be predefined by financial experts to make them useful to novice investors. When an investor selects a particular investment, a display is generated showing all of the alerts that are true for that investment and allowing the user to get more information concerning the significance of the alerts. The alerts can be grouped into different categories according to their content or time sensitivity.

A system and method for efficiently synchronizing multiple databases stored on multiple computing devices. The method and system provides a duplicated database configuration where a database can either be stored only on a plurality of client computers, or on at least a client computer and a server computer. This duplicated database configuration allows users to access a database from a plurality of client computers that are communicatively connected to a server computer.

System and method for synchronizing multiple database files

A system and method for efficiently synchronizing multiple databases stored on multiple computing devices. The method and system provides a duplicated database configuration where a database can either be stored only on a plurality of client computers, or on at least client computer and a server computer. This duplicated database configuration allows users to access a database from a plurality of client computers that are communicatively connected to a server computer. In one embodiment, the method and system synchronizes the databases of a client computer to the database of a server computer by downloading selected database objects from the server computer database, thereby minimizing the amount of data transferred between the client and server computers. The synchronization routine selectively downloads database objects based on a comparison of server access time indicators stored in the databases. If the server access time stored in the server computer database is earlier than the access time stored in the client computer database, the server computer downloads the entire server computer database to the client computer. If the server access time stored in the client computer database is earlier than the server access time stored in the server computer database, the server computer only downloads new database objects from the server computer to the client computer. The synchronization routine also provides for reducing the likelihood of synchronization errors by detecting expired client computer databases. If a particular client computer database is expired, the server computer replaces the client computer database with the server computer database.

A system for selectively recording a data structure where one or more external program modules are registered. A group of important actions is selected corresponding to both internal program modules and registered external program modules. The system determines if an action associated with one of the internal program modules or one of the registered external program modules has occurred. If so, the system determines if the action is one of the important actions. If the action is an important action, then information associated with the important action is placed into data fields of a data structure. The data structure containing the information is stored in computer memory. The data structure is maintained within a central container or folder in memory, along with previously recorded data structures. The data structure can be automatically deleted after a predetermined threshold of time. A representation of the data structure can be viewed along with representations of previously recorded data structures along a chronological timeline in related groups. The groups are based upon a particular data field of the data structure.
