A development station that improves toner halftone dot development over a wide range of environmental conditions includes a developer housing for retaining semi-conductive carrier particles and toner particles, a first magnetic roll having a stationary core with at least one magnet and a sleeve having longitudinal grooves that rotates about the stationary core of the first magnetic roll, a second magnetic roll having a stationary core with at least one magnet and a sleeve having longitudinal grooves that rotates about the stationary core of the second magnetic roll, an environmental sensor for generating an environmental condition signal, a variable voltage supply coupled to the first magnetic roll and the second magnetic roll, and a control circuit for adjusting an output level for the variable voltage supply.

Environmental controls for operation of an electrostatographic developer unit having multiple magnetic brush rolls

A method by which the target of a toner concentration (TC) sensor can be set up based on the equivalent developability concept without using an expensive patch generator. First, use a black toner area coverage (BTAC) sensor to measure the relative reflectance (RR) of a 100% area coverage developed patch (ROS generated) at a series of development levels (Vor V) to generate a pseudo development curve and estimate Vin real-time (Vis the Vlevel that starts to develop toner onto the photoreceptor belt.) Then, add a nominal delta Vto Vto get the development level (V) needed to generate 100% area coverage gray patch. Finally, using a BTAC sensor to measure the RR level of a 100% area coverage (AC) gray patch, move the target of the TC sensor, and converge the sensor's reading to the sensor's target continuously until the RR level of the gray patch hits the RR target (predefined) within the tolerance range. Thus, the target of the TC sensor is set for the xerographic system automatically.

System and method for setup of toner concentration target for a toner concentration sensor

A mold used to form a magnetic member includes a mold body having a mold opening, a mold support that supports the mold cavity, and a mold insert. The mold insert is disposed in the mold opening of the mold body to form a mold cavity. The mold insert is coated with a coating to protect the mold body from chemical attack and abrasive wear of the mold material. The coating comprises an electroless nickel layer formed on or over the mold insert, and a chromium nitride layer formed on or over the electroless nickel layer. A molding assembly for producing a magnetic development roller having relatively precise magnetic development fields for use in an electrostatographic reproduction machine to develop a latent image recorded on a photoconductive member of the machine. The molding assembly includes a cylindrical member having a first end, a second end, a first radius, and a shell portion. The shell portion includes an outer surface, and an inner surface defining a molding cavity that has a second radius corresponding to an outer radius of a magnetic development roller molded within the molding cavity. The molding assembly also includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced channels formed within the shell portion, with each channel of the plurality having generally parallel walls, and being located immediately adjacent the inner surface of the shell portion for containing a permanent magnet suitable for inducing a magnetic field in a magnetic development roller molded within the molding cavity. A permanent magnet is placed within each channel of the plurality of channels, and is spaced from each wall of the parallel walls of each channel. As placed, the permanent magnet defines an adjustment space therefor with each wall of the parallel walls. Importantly, the molding assembly includes an adjustment device for precisely adjusting a magnetizing position of the permanent magnet within the adjustment space. The adjustment device includes at least one pair of first members for adjustably moving the permanent magnet radially relative to a center of the molding cavity, and at least one pair of second members for translating the permanent magnet non-radially relative to a center of the molding cavity, thus efficiently adjusting the magnetizing position of the permanent magnet for inducing relatively precise magnetic development fields in a magnetic development roller molded within the molding cavity.

The mold includes a body and an insert. The body defines a surface of the body. The insert is positioned at least partially against the surface of the body. The insert defines an inner surface of the insert. The inner surface is adapted to conform to at least a portion of the periphery of the roll. The insert may be replaced when worn and the body may be reused with a replacement insert.

Method for manufacturing magnetic rolls

A method for manufacturing a magnetic roll, including the steps of: molding a roll core with ferrite filled resin material to a first diameter; allowing the ferrite filled resin material to become hard; overmolding said roll core with ferrite filled resin material to a second diameter; and cooling the ferrite filled resin material until it becomes hard. The core is magnetized during said molding step and said overmolding step. The method may further include enclosing the core within a sleeve.
