A cathode composition and a rechargeable electrochemical cell comprising same are disclosed. The cathode composition is described as comprising particles of one or more transition metal, alkali halometallate having a melting point of less than about 300 degrees Celsius, and at least one phosphorus composition additive selected from P&#x2014;O compositions, P-halogen compositions, P&#x2014;O-halogen compositions, and their reaction products and combinations. Also described is a rechargeable electrochemical cell comprising the composition. The phosphorus composition additive in the cathode composition of a cell is effective to lower the capacity degradation rate of the cell during operation relative to absence of the additive, and effective to lower the internal resistance of the cell when under operating conditions relative to absence of the additive.

A catalyst system for the reduction of NOcomprises a catalyst comprising a metal oxide catalyst support, a catalytic metal oxide comprising at least one of gallium oxide or silver oxide, and at least one promoting metal selected from the group consisting of silver, cobalt, molybdenum, tungsten, indium, bismuth and mixtures thereof. The catalyst system further comprises a gas stream comprising an organic reductant, and a compound comprising sulfur. A method for reducing NOutilizing the said catalyst system is also provided.

A catalyst system for the reduction of NOx. is provided. A catalyst system comprising a catalyst and a reductant is disclosed. The catalyst comprises a metal oxide catalyst support, a catalytic metal oxide, and a promoting metal. The catalytic metal oxide comprises gallium oxide, indium oxide or a combination of the two. The promoting metal comprises at least one of silver, cobalt, vanadium, molybdenum, tungsten, zinc, tin and bismuth. The catalyst comprises about 5 to about 31 mol % catalytic metal oxide and about 0.5 to about 9 mol % promoting metal. The reductant comprises a fluid hydrocarbon having at least 4 carbon atoms. Also disclosed is a process for reducing NOto Nusing the disclosed catalyst system by mixing NOwith a reductant and passing the mixture through a catalyst of the disclosed catalyst system.
