This invention relates to articles of manufacture containing liquid compositions of hypohalous acid or hypohalous acid salt for deactivating allergens and preventing diseases on hard surfaces, soft surfaces and in the air. The articles of manufacture contain usage instructions with health claims. This invention also includes methods of instructing the public and promoting the use of these compositions.

Methods for deactivating allergens and preventing disease

Provided is a demonstration apparatus comprising a top subassembly and a bottom subassembly. The top subassembly includes a reservoir adapted to contain a consumer product to be demonstrated. The consumer product has efficacy to produce a consumer-desired effect that is directly or indirectly observable. The bottom subassembly includes a vial containing a contaminant upon which the consumer product produces the consumer-desired effect. The top sub assembly and bottom subassembly are coupled to a reservoir seal element. Upon activation of the demonstration apparatus, the consumer product flows into the bottom subassembly and contacts the contaminant to produce the consumer-desired effect. Also provided, are a method of use for the demonstration apparatus and a kit containing the demonstration apparatus.

A method to prevent deposits on a ceramic surface comprising: (1) pretreating the surface by applying an aqueous solution containing from about 200 ppm to about 1000 ppm by weight of an amphoteric fluorosurfactant, and (2) periodically applying an aqueous maintenance solution comprising from about 1 ppm to about 200 ppm of at least one of an amphoteric or cationic fluorosurfactant or a mixture thereof, from about 5 ppm to about 100 ppm of a sequestering acid, and from about 2.5 ppm to about 200 ppm of a quaternary ammonium biocide compound, wherein all concentrations are by weight of aqueous solution is disclosed.

The invention provides an improved, liquid aqueous hard surface cleaner containing a fluoropolymer having a molecular weight of no less than 5,000, further containing preferably a nonionic surfactant, optionally, a quaternary ammonium compound, a chelating agent/buffer and water to provide enhanced cleaning of hard surfaces, especially vitreous surfaces, in which the thus cleaned surface is rendered soil and stain repellent.

C., present in a solubilizing--or dispersion--effective amount; (c) Ammonium ethylenediamine--tetraacetate (ammonium EDTA) as a chelating agent, present in an amount effective to enhance soil removal in said cleaner, and (d) the remainder, water.

An aerosol cleaning composition for hard surfaces is provided. The dispensable includes: (a) an anionic, nonionic, amphoteric surfactant, and mixtures thereof with optionally, a quaternary ammonium surfactant, the total amount of said surfactant being present in a cleaning effective amount; (b) at least one water-soluble or dispersible organic solvent having a vapor pressure of at least 0.001 mm Hg at 25.degree. C., said at least one organic solvent present in a solubilizing--or dispersion--effective amount; (c) a chelating agent selected from the group consisting of tetrapotassium ethylenediamine-tetraacetate (potassium EDTA), tetraammonium ethylenediamine-tetraacetate (ammonium EDTA) and mixtures thereof, said chelating agent present in an amount effective to enhance soil removal in said composition; (d) an effective amount of a propellant; and (e) the remainder, water. The forming action of the aerosol composition facilitates the dispersement of the cleaning components.

C., and mixtures of such solvents; (b) an effective amount of at least one semi-polar nonionic surfactant, said surfactant having the structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is C.sub.5-20 alkyl, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are both C.sub.1-4 alkyl, ##STR2## or --(CH.sub.2).sub.p --OH, although R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 do not have to be equal, and n is 1-5, and p is 1-6; (c) an effective amount of a buffering system which comprises a nitrogenous buffer which will result in a pH of greater than 6.5; and (d) the remainder as substantially all water.
