A system for controlling the flight of aircraft includes an aircraft operated by a human pilot, one or more optionally piloted aircraft controlled by a processor, and a communication link between the aircraft. The optionally piloted aircraft receives data indicative of the position and flight path of the piloted aircraft, and is automatically controlled to maintain a predetermined range of separation distances from the piloted aircraft. Control of the optionally piloted aircraft may include machine reasoning computing functions based on a classification of data received by the communication link, data indicative of the current positions and three-dimensional flight paths of the aircraft, stored data from previously calculated positions and three-dimensional flight paths of the aircraft, and stored data from previously executed flight plans associated with the optionally piloted aircraft.

System and method for cooperative operation of piloted and optionally piloted aircraft

A distributed system for flight and route management (FARM) of one or more aircraft of the system may include onboard processing devices for combining sensor data local to an aircraft with cloud-based data received through the system from other aircraft or from ground-based processing devices, thereby generating situation models of each aircraft relative to its flight path and in the context of current and predictive conditions (weather, traffic, terrain, threats, etc.). The FARM system may evaluate situation models against prioritized constraint sets of business rules or policies associated with each aircraft's flight plan to determine, crosscheck, and implement possible modifications to the flight plan. Localized aircraft data and flight plan modifications may be propagated through the system via a variety of communications networks to provide synchronized, holistic airspace data portraits to aircraft and ground control alike.

A system, device, and method for operating an aircraft autonomously are disclosed. The widget creating system may include a plurality of aircraft systems and autonomous pilot processing unit (APPU). The APPU may be configured to acquire first model data representative of either a combined strategic/operational behavior model or an operational behavior model; acquire second model data representative of an execution behavior model; acquire third model data representative of a strategic behavior model when a combined strategic/operational behavior model is not employed; acquire input data representative of at least one aircraft system parameter of each aircraft system of the plurality of aircraft systems, where the input data is acquired through the execution behavior model; monitor each aircraft system of the plurality of aircraft systems for an expected operation; and generate output data representative of at least one command provided to at least one aircraft system of the plurality of aircraft systems.

Autonomous aircraft operating system, device, and method

The present invention includes an image processing system with several data compression processing units connected together with a communication bus. Each data compression processing unit includes a wavelet transform processing unit, a shared register file and an address computation processing unit. The wavelet transform processing unit decomposes data from one or more segments of an image into wavelets using a discrete wavelet transform. The shared register stores the intermediate wavelet coefficient computations. The address computation processing unit identifies addresses of wavelets to be decomposed by subsequent operation of the wavelet transform processing unit. The system also includes storage where the resultant wavelet coefficients from each segment may be stored. The present invention also includes methods of compressing image data using multiple processors where each processor operates on a segment of the image data.
