Systems and methods are provided for conversion of gas phase reactants including CO and Hto Cproducts using multiple catalysts in a single reactor while reducing or minimizing deactivation of the catalysts. Separate catalysts can be used that correspond to a first catalyst, such as a catalyst for synthesis of methanol from synthesis gas, and a second catalyst, such as a catalyst for conversion of methanol to a desired Cproduct. The separate catalysts can be loaded into the reactor in distinct layers that are separated by spacer layers. The spacer layers can correspond to relatively inert particles, such as silica particles. Optionally, the spacer layer can include an adsorbent, such as boron supported on alumina or boron carbide particles. The adsorbent can be suitable for selective adsorption of the one or more reaction products (such as one or more reaction by-products), to allow for further reduction or minimization of the deactivation of the conversion catalysts.

Layered catalyst loading for synthesis gas conversion

The disclosure relate generally to structures, forms, and monoliths, and methods of preparing the same. This disclosure can produce uniform structured passageways or channels of active material, including adsorbent or catalyst, by imprinting or molding features into a paste on a support that can be subsequently assembled into a gas or liquid treating structure, i.e. a monolith. The paste, which can include an active material, binder, and other potential additives, can be applied to the support or pushed through a support (as in a mesh) as a thin film. The paste can be imprinted, stamped, shaped or otherwise handled to give features of desired height, shape, width, and positioning. When stacked or rolled, the features of one layer contact a subsequent layer, which seal to form passageways. The resulting structure can have high cell-density (&#x3e;1000 cells per square inch) and a large volume fraction of active material.

High capacity structures and monoliths via paste imprinting

Systems and methods are provided for forming alkylate from a tertiary alcohol feed. Olefins for the alkylation reaction can be generated from a portion of the tertiary alcohol feed. The tertiary alcohol feed can be obtained, for example, by selective oxidation to convert a portion of an isoparaffin-containing feed into alcohol, such as conversion of isobutane to t-butyl alcohol. The alcohol can then be converted to an alkene, such as conversion of t-butyl alcohol to isobutene, in the alkylation reaction environment in the presence of a solid acid catalyst. The solid acid catalyst can then facilitate dimerization of the alkenes (e.g. isobutene) to form Colefins (e.g. isooctene). A catalyst having an MWW framework is an example of a suitable solid acid catalyst.

Production of iso-octene from tertiary alcohols

The present disclosure relates to a material preferably used in a guard bed, and having an increased capacity to adsorb catalyst poisons, as measured by collidine update at 200&#xb0; C. The material is made by a method in which it is treated by being dried with a drying gas, preferably, at a temperature greater than about 200&#xb0; C. The treated material may be used to remove impurities from untreated feed streams to, for example, aromatic alkylation and transalkylation processes, where such impurities act as catalyst poisons that cause deactivation of the acidic molecular sieve-based catalysts used, thereby increasing the cycle length of such catalysts.

Guard bed material, its method of making and use

Methods are provided for synthesis of various types of zeolites using synthesis mixtures that contain a dominant structure directing agent and one or more secondary structure directing agents. Advantageously, the secondary structure directing agents may substantially not alter the crystal structure and/or morphology of the crystals generated by a synthesis mixture in the presence of the dominant structure directing agent.
